All of a sudden (literally) I keep getting the following message on sites I frequently go to already:

Secure Connection Failed The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

I keep on retrying and retrying but it doesn't help. I have closed and restarted Firefox several times. Still didn't help. I hadn't changed anything in "options".

Firefox 47. Win 10.

TIA, kk

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hello,

I scanned my computer with 6 different anti virus/malware apps and none of them found anything related to my problem. My clock and date are correct. I white listed the sites I can't go to.

What can I do?

TIA, kk

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Did you create any security exceptions for certificates?

Try to rename the cert8.db file (cert8.db.old) and delete the cert_override.txt file in the Firefox profile folder to remove intermediate certificates and exceptions that Firefox has stored.

If that has helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed cert8.db.old file.

Firefox will automatically store intermediate certificates that servers send in the Certificate Manager for future use.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

I tried to boot to Win 10 Safe Mode with Network (I did through msconfig). After booting up, I tried to open Firefox but it would not open. I tried to open Google Chrome and it would not open either. I tried to find the file cert_override.txt to delete it but could find it nowhere on my computer. I even did a search with Agent Ransack and it couldn't find that file either. I did rename the cert8.db file and then tried to use Firefox. It wouldn't log on to Yahoo or Hotmail and I still could not go to those sites I have been having trouble with (sigh). Those sites are all white listed in Options/Security. If there is another place to white list them, I don't know where that could be.

Right now I have no idea what to do.

TIA, kk
