Drop down menus aren't recognized

more options

I use a website that has drop down boxes that are used to make selections. I have been using this website for years with no issues. Several months ago the drop down boxes stopped being "recognized" as selections and will be 'reset' when the 'enter' button is pushed - thus negating the selections. I have tried everything I can think of to get this working with no luck. I can use the website in Internet Explorer but only just within the last week. It appears that something called SSV Helper and SSV 2 Helper have been installed recently in IE which, presumably, is what allowed the website to work as normal. I would try to install these plugins in Firefox but I'm not sure how to do that or if I even need to.

I have tried disabling Hardware Acceleration, restarting in safe mode and trying, as well tried refreshing Firefox all with no luck. Any help on how to remedy this situation in Firefox would be helpful as I do not intend on using IE.

Is the problem with just that website? Please provide a public link that we can check out.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Poke around safe websites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Yes, the problem is only with that website as far as I know as I don't have any issues with any other websites ( at least not that I'm aware of ).

And the website cannot be to blame as I used it flawlessly today with IE. So I'm thinking that it has to do with some setting or lack of plugin for Firefox.

Unfortunately I cannot post a public link for this website. It's nothing lewd or "weird", just something very private. I know that's not helpful but unfortunately that's the way it is.

It's as if the drop downs aren't registering when I hit the "calculate" or "enter" button to 'use' those drop downs. They just reset and it registers like I never used the drop downs. Think of it this way: there are 2 drop downs on a webpage and an 'enter' or 'calculate' button. The 2 drop downs could be a size and a style of clothing. I click them to make my selections and then hit the 'enter' button, but instead of taking me to a checkout, I get an error message telling me that I made no selections ( because the drop downs were reset to 'nil' when I hit the "calculate" button ).

Any ideas of what might be causing this? Again, SSV Helper has just been installed in my version of IE and that seems to be the only new advance as I don't use IE ever - I only checked it today for the very reason of troubleshooting this website.

I'm not even sure what SSV Helper and SSV 2 Helper are, but would that be some sort of solution to this?

In addition, I should restate that this has only been a problem since Decemberi-ish of last year. Furthermore, there are several people who use this same website and do not have issues with it like I do - again pointing to the fact that it's not the website but something that I'm either lacking in Firefox or a mis-tweaked setting.

Have you tried what I posted above?

If you're asking me if I've tried it in safe mode and/or disabling hardware acceleration, then yes. I've also tried clearing cache and cookies - that was one of the first things I tried when it stopped working. No dice. Otherwise I'm not sure what you are asking me if I tried.

Can you explain the SSV Helper and SSV 2 Helper to me and would that be something to look into?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

I have done that. It does not work. The problem still persists.

Thanks for your continued help, it is appreciated.

The problem is the website coding. Not bad coding, just something that gives Firefox trouble. That is why I asked for the web address. If you want, you can send me a private message. Just press my name to the left of this post. But only the web address. Keep posting your responses in this forum.

Sent via private mail; I cannot post the address. It's a ************* site

If the above doesn't work, we can't do much more. You may have to use another browser for that site.

Last option; Remove History For One Site Open the History Manager <Control><Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any passwords / settings.

If you use the site in a private window, check for the Tracking Protection "shield" icon. See: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

On the form, does it make any difference if you tab to the calculate button and activate it by pressing the space bar?

There was a change in Firefox earlier this year when a user reported that buttons inside links or contain embedded links (I can't remember) did not work correctly. It doesn't seem to come up as a issue very often because it's a bad way to code sites, but you could check whether that is an issue using the Inspector.

Right-click the calculate button and choose Inspect Element (Q). Firefox should open the Inspector (usually in the lower part of the tab, sometimes in a new window) and expand the HTML "tree" to the button. I guess it's difficult to describe what I'm looking for, but what you would expect to see is something like one of the following:

<input type="button or submit" value="Calculate" onclick="some script">

<button onclick="some script">Calculate</button>

If the input or button is nested inside a link (an a element), that could be a problem. Or if there is an a element inside the button tag, that could be a problem.

Otherwise, I can't think of any form-related changes in recent versions.

If you are avoiding IE and also Google's browser, you could look at Opera as an alternative for this site: http://www.opera.com/computer
