Cache filling up

more options

I am running into lost of problems when using twitter where my firefox cache is filling up extremely quickly and i cant use twitter until i clear my cache and cookies. However, this causes me to lose my spot on certain twitter pages that are needed as I work in Marketing and need to be able to view multiple twitter accounts at once. I have tried everything i can find online to completely block my cache with firefox, however i still encounter these problems with twitter.

Firefox should be able to discard old pages from the cache to make way for new ones quietly in the background.

If you check the Options page, how much space is Firefox using for your cache?

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab

For example: "Your web content cache is currently using 350 MB of disk space"

I have tried changing the number from 350 to 250 to 100 and i read an article somewhere that mentioned setting it to 0. Currently I have it set to 0 but i still have the same problems with the same amount of frequency. I was wondering if there are advanced settings that could be adjusted in the about:config page. Also, i was wondering if there a way to completely disable my cache, and if so would this require me to log into every webpage every time i go to it, or would the password be saved

Cache and cookies are stored separately. If you clear cache, Firefox won't be able to re-use anything text or images it saved from a site and will download them again. If you clear cookies, the site will treat you (at least temporarily) as a new visitor in a new session, and will send you fresh cookies.

Could you describe the Twitter problems in more detail? Do you get error messages, or "Not Responding", or what exactly is happening?

The message i get says "loading seems to be taking awhile. Titter may be over capacity or experiencing a momentary hiccup." Everything i have found mentions clearing out your cache and then your cookies. But this only temporarily fixes it and a few hours later i have the problem again

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Hmm, that wording sounds very customized. Does that occur when visiting a new page or when you scroll down and the page tries to pull in more content?

For problems loading a new page, try Ctrl+Shift+r to bypass any previously cached files used by that page. Does that make any difference?

Not sure that would help with additional content because you'll be reloading the entire page from scratch.

I'm trying to avoid reloading the page because i will lose the spot that i am at. And the error occurs when i try to scroll down. Even trying to reload the page, the error message appears in the same spot.

I Googled that message and got 144 million results. Apparently it is a standard (hidden) part of a Twitter page that gets displayed if a background request for additional content fails. It's strange that it fails at the same place after a reload.

Does the "Try again" link ever work? Without running into the error, I can't test what it does.
