I've been a power user of Thunderbird for many years now, and this is the first time I've come across this issue.

Suddenly yesterday, without warning, the display of messages in my Inbox have vanished.

The mail items are still there. When I click or use my arrow buttons to move up or down, the preview display pane correctly shows the emails.

When I reply, the emails look normal as well.

Other folders render correctly. It's just the Inbox.

I restarted the program, then shut down and rebooted my laptop. Has not resolved the issue.

I changed email host and in Thunderbird (TB), copied all messages from the old, previous email account to the new one. I then disabled the previous/old account.

The issue is that now when I open an existing email in the new TB account, the body of the message doesn't appear and I'm prompted for "Enter your password for _____" , where "_____" is the name of the old server.

The tragedy is that I can't see the body/text of many messages. It's as if the email in the new acct is still tied to the old server.

Can anyone shed some light on this and offer a fix please? Cheers!

For YEARS I have successfully sent daily photos in my Thunderbird with no problem. Procedure: I highlight the photos to send, click "send to"/"mail recipient". Thunderbird then autonatically opens, with a box showing a choice of small, medium, large, or original size, and displays the overall total size in eacg case, so I can max the quality of what I send. I make my "total mb" choice, and click "attach". A blank email opens, I simply enter the destination email address , and all is sent. Simple., Done. Time after time. Today..EVERY time I do this (send/mail recipient/choose size/ attach) the email page now opens with abig square pop up on teling me i need to open an account! It says "IN ORDER TO RECEIVE MESSAGES YOU MUST FiRST SET UP AN ACCOUNT" ( I am trying to SEND anyway, not recieve) I have never had this problem , I am doing nothing different. I clearly DO have an account, as I have always been ablke to send photos and emails. I canNOT get past this and it is very frustrating. (Despite saying "choose account" It only offers one type anyway; a "Newsgroup" acct. I dont want one, and have never previously needed one. It was ALL working fine yesterday. Is this some glitch in the latest update? If s how doI go back to the one that actually worked? I send photos every day, to people bedridden, who need them; this is a serious problem for me. Newish user having switched over from Outlook over Xmas time. One of the features on Outlook which is almost certainly available on Thunderbird is the ability to clean-up folders based on conversation duplicates.

Having searched for this there are options for either conversations (group by, but not duplicates within the conversation) or extensions which remove just duplicates or dupes.

Basically, I am after one function combining the two above similar to Outlook and if possible built in as i have an aversion to installing anything without a checksum.

Thanks for any pointers.

I have version 91.6 and have major problems: 1. It constantly freezes up - Almost every time I try to open an email the error message "Thunderbird is freezing" comes up. Sometimes it will be 3-4-5 minutes. 2. Every time I open it up, it asks for email password for each account. I put password in AND "SAVE" for each email account (4). I know they are there as when I go to settings and check on passwords, they are shown. But Thunderbird will still ask me evrytime. I will enter password and end up hitting "retry" 4-5-6 or more times before it will download my emails. I have wasted hours every day on downloading and trying to read my emails. I have so many folders filled with emails that I need to keep for followup from the last 3-4 years since Win10 would not let me use Eudora anymore or I would switch to Mail or Outlook. I had Eudora for over 20 years and had less problems in total over that time than I have every day with Thunderbird. I have reinstalled program several times over the past few months hoping to solve problem to no avail. To make sure it was not TWC or my computer, I tried Outlook. Whhat I got was instant downloads, no hesitations and instant opening of the email. If I did not hve to keep my old messages, I would switch, BUT, in this day and age of technology, I don't understand why Thunderbird ahs so many problems

SOLVED!! (see Solution at bottom) How do I completely turn off BLOGS & NEWS FEEDS (B&NFs). This function somehow became active in my TB; I made no known changes to cause this function to become active. I want the Inbox Screen to always look like #1 Screen Shot Image.

When I open a link to a web page in an email message, I get the message: "You already have a subscription for this feed". This may be preceded by the message "Verifying the Link", then get the "You already ..." message the next time time the link is clicked on. In both cases the link is prevented from opening and B&NFs has been inserted into the left hand panel on my Inbox Page . This is seen in #2 Screen Shot Image.

In the left hand panel on the Inbox screen I right click B&NFs>select Settings>and get #3 Screen Shot Image. Then select Account Actions>Remove Account>[and remove the account]. see #4 Screen Shot Image.

When I return to the Inbox, B&NFs is removed and the screen again looks like #1 Screen Shot. But if I click again on a link in an email, the denial sequence repeats.

The link from the Mozilla Support suggestion “This does not solve my problem” generates the "You already have a subscription for this feed" message. So I cannot respond to say the problem is not solved; I have to again enter my request on the “TB request for help form”!

Solution: FF was not set as default browser. So, FF>Settings>General>Startup>"Always check if FF is your default browser" box is checked, get a smiley face, and the Blogs and News Feeds no longer interferes. I have no idea why this makes a difference, but it does.

Edit: I believe I now know how to get back to this thread.

Is it possible to use some managment tool in corporate network of Thunderbird Clients? We have clients in our company deployed with one version when reinstalling workstations. As Thunderbird can be set so that it does not download the update, it is still in a state where at least it asks and the user clicks on it. The question is that is it possible to do this in some software or update center??? The point ist we dont have the control over the clients updates. We wont to release these updates for the whole company when we agree not when the users do so by accident. What often happens to us, the versions are then different and we would like to have it under control.

Imagine we replace 100 workstations a year. The version is the same. Time will pass and in 3 months it will be a mess. Is there any way to keep it in order ??? Tips on how to keep one version in a large network and then do a massive update on 100+ workstations.

This mess of various versions then causes a problem for users with different views and unnecessary problems in managing clients for administrators in our company. When we know that version 80 is good and then that 85 is good again or does not cause any problem in our environment after the tests. Then we will deploy it for everyone.

Apparently since version 91, I have an issue with Virtual Folders.

Current version is 91.3.0

In my "Sent" virtual folder, messages sent by Gmail do not appear in the overview list.

I tried to clarify the issue: - the messages sent through my Gmail accounts do not appear in the summary list, but they appear in the detailed folders - this problem concerns all my Gmail accounts and no other accounts (laposte.net, me.com). - this problem only concerns the SENT virtual folder, not the other virtual folders - I can make all the messages sent to reappear correctly, by going to the properties of the virtual folder, then "choose" and ticking the right folders. But when I quit Thunderbird and come back, the messages no longer appear (and the checkmarks for those folders have disappeared). - I arrive at the same result by deleting in the data of Thunderbird the folder "smart mailboxes" and the file "VirtualFolders.dat": at the first launch everything works, at the second one again, the unified view for the Gmail accounts is lost (and Gmail mailboxes do not appear in the VirtualFolders.dat file, section Sent ". They appear in all other sections.) - I deleted and recreated one of my Gmail accounts, without success.

Can not send Bcc emails.

Up until March 23 I was able to send Bcc to several people. Yesterday I tried to send Bcc and I get the message "Sending of the message failed.

The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) outbound.att.net for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again." I have checked my outgoing settings and nothing has changed. Even just trying to send to one person with Bcc doesn't work. The mail will go if I use the To: I have two Thunderbird mail accounts and they both give me the same message when sending Bcc. I use Yahoo mail. sbcglobal.net. I have tried deleting the password and when I tried to send the mail it asked for my password. After submitting it I still have the same problem. I even tried changing the SMTP settings. No luck there. I tried the trouble shooting mode and that didn't work. I've tried searching for a solution but didn't have any luck. I'm hoping to get some help on the support site. Thanks for any help.

If I compose a new mail and attach a PDF from the hard disk, the sent mail is properly created with:

Content-Type: application/pdf; name="filename.pdf"

If I instead compose a new mail and use drag and drop to attach a PDF from another email attachment, the mail is sent with the following mime header:

Content-Type: application/x-unknown-content-type; name="filename.pdf"

I think this is an error. I was able to reproduce the behaviour on linux (91.8.0) and windows (91.8.1).

Loading old XP emails on a new W10 machine

I have a client that was until 3 weeks ago using XP and TB. His HDD was dying so rebuilt to W10 and installed TB 91.8.0. If I copy over the profile, I can get TB to load… (pročitajte više)

I have a client that was until 3 weeks ago using XP and TB. His HDD was dying so rebuilt to W10 and installed TB 91.8.0.

If I copy over the profile, I can get TB to load it and his previous email and accounts appear but I can not collect new mail “the connection with the server was interrupted”. I spoke with the host, Zen, and the account credentials are correct, I can login to web mail. The advice from Zen was to setup the profiles manually and this worked for some reason, I can collect email, however, because the old profile was pop and mail was deleted from the server after a number of days the old mail is sitting in the old profile.

So, the old profile, with old email inside will not collect new mail, commence hours of research. If I set up a new profile, I can get new mail but don’t have access to the old profile and email.

I tried loading the old profile, which will not connect for new mail but does display the old mail, then creating new/existing email accounts to get the new email but I get a new message saying “incoming server already exists”.

I appear to be stuck, I can have the new mail working with no old mail or the old mail visible with no collection of new mail but not both.

Any pointers or help would be much appreciated.
