Emails are mistakingly being flagged as Junk...repeatedly

Only recently (over the last week or so) have I noticed that emails from one particular sender are consistently marked as Junk, with that orange symbol in the junk column… (pročitajte više)

Only recently (over the last week or so) have I noticed that emails from one particular sender are consistently marked as Junk, with that orange symbol in the junk column. Even when I click on it to remove it, and/or click on "Not junk", the email becomes marked again as Junk within a few seconds/minute. I find this so strange. The sender is my mother, who has been emailing me for years! I just closed Thunderbird down after removing all the junk tags and have just re-opened it and all my emails from my mother since mid-May are all marked as junk.....this is ridiculous. How do I permanently remove the orange marker next to each email?

I am using Version 31.7.0

Just to add: the emails remain in the folder I created for my mother's mail-they aren't being moved to the Junk folder (Thunderbird is not moving them there)....and so I don't understand why they are arriving in my "mum's" folder and being marked by Tbird as junk.

When I try to send an email using Thunderbird, a window that says "SMPT Server Password Required" pops up asking me for my password. This never used to happen. When I enter the password of my associated Gmail account, it says "Login to server smtp.googlemail.com failed". If it's not the password of my associated Gmail account, then what password does it want? Is there a way to change the password?

The number of spam emails with attachments containing macros seems to have increased exponentially over the year. It would be an obvious option to add a function that automatically puts these into junk. If you don't want the option, don't set it. The spam filters do a reasonable job at catching most spam but ALL spam with attachments containing macros are not caught by the spam filter. I have NEVER received a valid email with macros in the attachments. I do not want them and I don't understand why no one is doing anything about it.

95% of the spam i am receiving is evading the Thunderbird spam filter. What is being done about it?

Whenever I open Thunderbird for the first time each day, the web page: https://www.bitcoinfyi.com/early-tech-investor-says-bitcoin-will-be-bigger-than-the-internet?utm_source=facebook opens automatically in my browser (in this case Firefox). If I start Firefox before starting Thunderbird, the web page does not open. I have tested this scenario extensively, so it's not Firefox - it's definitely Thunderbird. In fact, I went a whole day just using Firefox and not starting Thunderbird without seeing the bitcoin page.

How do can I stop this from happening in Thunderbird? What tools are available that would alow me to troubleshoot it? I would very much appreciate your ideas.

So far, I did searches within Thunderbird (i.e. I searched my e-mail messages) for "bitcoinfyi," "bitcoin," etc., but nothing can back in the result. I also searched about:config without any result. I ran several scans using SpyBot S&D, Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, and my antivirus software (360 Total Security). None of these scanners returned any malware or spyware related to the bitcoin issue.

It always displays the same page - an article from April 23rd, 2018. I submitted the URL to Virus Total (www.virustotal.com) for analysis and review - Virus Total reports the site as clean. I typed "early tech investor says bitcoin bigger than the internet" into a Google search and found links to the article associated with cnbc.com, twitter.com, coinnewstelegraph.com, truthinmeida.com, etc. in the result. These sites seem to be referencing the same article.

I don't understand why or how this article has infected my Thunderbird software. I appreciate any help you can give.

The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported.    This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
   If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Thunderbird frequently not recognizing app specific password for icloud account and it must be reset

I've been using Thunderbird for may years as my default email platform on my desktop PC (currently running Windows 10) for my email accounts as I enjoy its functionality. In June of 2019 iCloud.com email accounts required an "App-Specific Password" in order for Thunderbird to be allowed access. In June of 2019 I generated an App Specific password in iCloud.com and everything worked well. If I ever closed down Thunderbird the next time that I opened the program I was requested to enter the password. I entered my App Specific password and everything worked fine.

Recently (Nov 2019) Thunderbird has not been recognizing my App Specific password and I have been forced to create a new one at iCloud.com. This would occur whether or not I exited the Thunderbird program. This has progressed from a daily recurrence, to a multiple times a day recurrence, to an hourly recurrence, to the point where it is occurring every few minutes, and even to the point where a new App Specific password is being required to view a different folder in Thunderbird.

This is very frustrating. I'm just curious if anyone else is having this same issue? ...and what I can do to have this issue rectified?

Earthlink had an outage and my email was unusable in Thunderbird. Then all of my accounts required a password, although all but two are "remembered" for me. Then the prior settings worked, except for one account, which now requires the password to SEND (which is standard), but does NOT to receive (which is NOT the setting I want, as I want password required for both sending and receiving emails in this account). For the last two days, whenever Thunderbird is open, which is all day on this computer, every 10-15 minutes I get the Add Security Exception prompt. Every time it comes up I click to add the exception, but 10 minutes later I am prompted again. After a couple hours there will be several of these prompts I will need to close. I tried manually add the exception in the Options section, but that did not work either. I have read as much as I can on this issue but a lot of the explanations are over my head as I am merely a computer layman. This is a POP email I am dealing with here, but I am honestly not sure what that means. Any advice would be great as otherwise this is effecting my productivity to the point I will have to explore other email client options. I've been a dedicated Mozilla user for many years, thanks so much for any assistance!

I fixed it by rebooting Windows 10, but I do not want to reboot Win10 that often. I do not have a VIEW command as I saw someone mention.

Password changed in BT. Tbird does not demand new password

Currently unable to set up to an existing account on a new laptop. I’ve verified user name and password on the old laptop, but these don’t work when setting up the new one. The Thunderbird set-up wizard found my configuration in the Mozilla ISP DB, but can’t verify it. In other words, it won’t accept my username or password. I’ve done this for both IMAP and POP3, but it makes no difference. I’ve confirmed user name and password for both smtp and mail folders, and tried them in setting up. However, on the new laptop, Thunderbird doesn’t ask for user name, but just the name as displayed to others. Once I get set up, I’d like to copy my archive into the new system. One thing at a time…

This started last week and when using Thunderbird it will not pop mindspring.com or earthlink.net. It works on my phone, outlook and my ipad, but not in Thurderbird. The settings are correct and I have tried removing the account and reinstalling it on my laptop. I continue to get these messages. "Sending of password for user xxxx@mindspring.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.mindspring.com responded: Authentication failed". When I reenter the password I get this message "Login to server pop.mindspring.com failed." I am stymied as I have to read the email on a remote PC.

I have TB 45.1.1 (on Arch Linux) with a Yahoo! IMAP e-mail account.

Spam is automatically marked as Junk and moved to the Junk folder.

Sometimes I have the following problems:

1. Messages are automatically marked as Junk although it's sender is in my Thunderbird address book.

2. When I remove the message from the Junk folder, marking it as "No Junk", it appears in the Inbox folder. (That's right.)

3. After a few seconds, the message is automaically marked as Junk again (but stays in the Inbox).

4. Thunderbird keeps marking the message as Junk.

I noticed that Thunderbird does not keep marking the message as Junk when in offline mode. It looks like the Junk status online at Yahoo! is not updated. However, when I look up online at yahoo.com, there is no sign of a positive Junk status. I still have the option to mark the message as Junk.

Any ideas?

I should have figured this out a long time ago, but I'm a little unclear about the difference between junk and spam. Do I understand correctly that the adaptive junk mail controls in Thunderbird are based on what is in the Junk folder, and NOT what is in the Spam folder? That is, Thunderbird learns to recognize junk by what is in the Junk folder?

If that's the case, what exactly is the Spam folder for, and why do things end up there? Why wouldn't I want spam to be considered as Junk, with regard to the adaptive junk mail controls?

Hi, after having changed my password of my email account, Thunderbird still opens my email account with my old password and receives/sends new mails without problems. I can not open my account with my old password via a browser. This is how it should work.

I have seen other topics for this problem , but none with a correct satisfying answer. Maybe I did not look good enough.

Thunderbird should not be able to open a mail account with an old password, I think this is a severe problem.

Yes I know I can use Thunderbird with a main password, but still, how is it possible that Thunderbird does not ask me for the new password of an account after I changed my password for that account.
