I use Firefox Quantum Version 60.0.2 64 Bit on a Windows Server 2008 R2 complete patched with the Role Remoteserver.

If I use Firefox to open a website on the Internet or a website on the LAN, nothing happens. IE loads both pages on the same machine.

I can see with process monitor from sysinternals that the firefox.exe does not even try to generate traffic to the destination IP.

I have uninstalled the Firefox, deleted all related folders and registry entries. I cleaned about:support Firefox. I have disabled all security features on the machine like GPO, antivirus, firewall, proxy. Nothing happens! The firefox does not even try to open a website.

Is there a logfile somewhere? What can I do to make the firefox work?

I'm wondering if Mozilla.cfg still works with ESR60+ to customize/harden Firefox. I realize that group policy customization is now available, however testing and rolling that out takes time. Can someone speak to the official stance on this?

I've searched the doco high and low and see nothing to indicate that the config file is no longer supported. Everything in our config from ESR52, still works with the exception of "browser.startup.homepage".

Also, are there any tools to convert/migrate settings from the config file to a policy template?

I am unable to find a way to silently uninstall multiple different versions of firefox in an enterprise environment. We currently have 14 different versions spread out across multiple systems and windows OS's and need a command line that will remove them from workstations.

The <Firefox Full Installer.exe> /S option doesn't work very well, as it only uninstalls the .exe's version, and if that version isn't found, installs it instead!

Any help would be appreciated. I'm following this doc and its not helping at all: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Installer:Command_Line_Arguments

We have ESR deployed through SCCM with configuration set by GPO. Is there any way to make Firefox update itself without the end user starting the browser first? I'm thinking maybe a scheduled task that runs updater.exe or Mozilla Maintenance Service with some options or something similar.

Another option might be a scheduled task that starts Firefox in headless mode once a week, but I don't know if this will trigger an update.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

so, policies are working like a charm so far.

Firefox picks changes up nicely, really like it.

Thanks for implementing that!!

- - - - - - -

As for the issue:

When browsing my site I still receive ""Peer’s Certificate issuer is not recognized. " SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER" though. Chrome also uses Windows Store, works fine.

IE works fine.

The certificate is deployed via GPO, so it resides in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\Root\Certificates

(note the "Policies" in the path!), which might be an indication for trouble depending on the implementation of "use windows store".

The environment is a corporate Windows domain.

The cert has been created with

CN -> HOST.something.local

alias -> CNAME.something.local, CNAME, HOST

Version 3

PKCS #1 SHA-256 With RSA Encryption

The site is called like this -> https://CNAME

Note: The local client's DNS settings will apply something.local.

- - - - - - -

Funnily enough, when calling CNAME, CNAME.something.local or HOST -> I only get SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

With HOST.something.local (so the CN in the cert) this gets emitted too,

as well as "The certificate is only valid for the following names: CNAME.something.local, CNAME, HOST".

Another issue?

SAN sounds very much like "additional" names to me?! So I don't get why this would occur at all.

- - - - - - -

Version is 60.1.0 x64.

Looking forward to ideas.

"Policy actually being applied?" Yep, I see it reflected in about:config and the setting is also correctly being locked :)

Best regards

Dear all,

we have on Windows Server 2016 Standard Server running as Terminal Server on our ESX 6.7 Cluster.

VM Info: Hostname: TS02 Systemname: Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard Systemversion: 10.0.14393 Build 14393 OS Vendor: Microsoft Corporation Hardware Vendor: VMware, Inc. Modell: VMware Virtual Platform Systemtyp: x64-based PC Hotfix(es): [01]: KB3186568, [02]: KB3192137, [03]: KB4013418, [04]: KB4023834, [05]: KB4035631, [06]: KB4049065, [07]: KB4089510, [08]: KB4091664, [09]: KB4093137, [10]: KB4132216, [11]: KB4465659, [12]: KB4467694, [13]: KB4471331, [14]: KB4477029, [15]: KB4467691 Firefox Version: 63.0.3 (Also tested LTS 60.0.3) Kaspersky: Security for Win Srv 10.1.1.746 Windows Defender is Disabled

Unfortunately, since about 4 Month our Firefox installation is causing a crash of the user experience service. We have no Windows logs regarding this problem at all, the only thing we see is that the service is being forcefully terminated at shutdown.

The problem/crash shows up in the following chronology: - A user is opening a "filename.html" file out of an outlook e-mail attachment in Firefox. Firefox is the default browser on the system. - The firefox crashes on the user session and the user is not able to start Firefox again. - About 5 Minutes after the first crash, other users are complaining about poor performance in their remote session. Beside the performance problem other firefox Windows from other users start to freeze. Users that logout from their session can only see a black screen after the login prompt when they try to login again. Admins can only login through the vmware console to the server, since their sessions are black too. - About 10 Minutes after the first crash the whole system is extremely slowly and no one can use firefox anymore since all Firefox Windows in all sessions are frozen. - About 15 Minutes after the first crash the system has to be rebooted because it is not usable anymore.

After the server is rebooted, everything works fine. Even files from outlook attachments can be opened fine. After about 24 hours to 5 days everything begins from start again.

We already have tried LTS versions of Firefox with no luck. Windows Updates are installed, Kaspersky for Server is on the latest patch release. At the moment we have configured a GPO object that prevents the firefox.exe from being executed and the problem is not showing up again. But since our internal CRM Software is only Firefox and (partly) IE compatible, we urgently need Firefox back as soon as possible.

I've found some crash reports from Firefox, gut did not get any (for me/us) usable information out of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Val

Hi. I'm obligated to force firefox to open pdf files downloaded from web to open externally in foxit reader. As far as i've researched there is no option to set it in user.js in all local profiles of firefox (I've just tried to set pdfjs.disabled to true - but this ended file to download rather than open in foxit). Computers are in Windows AD domain (about 500). We have different versions of firefox across computers (mainly esr versions from 50 to 60). Is there any way to set firefox pref to open in external pdf viewer in all computers in this situation?

Hello,

In our environment, we roughly have 200~ subdomains that are all on a local network. Unfortunately, the certificates are self signed, so whenever a user visits X subdomain for the first time they have to go through and manually permanently allow exception on that one subdomain. I was wondering if there is a way to gather a list of the 200~ subdomains, and automate or bulk add them to the exception list. I wasn't able to find much on Google, or maybe there is something I'm not searching properly. I was hoping if you could further point me to the right direction, I appreciate your time in reading this.

We're looking at using the GPO functionality to start managing our existing Firefox deployments. We've loaded the ADMX file and have created a test GPO that does 2 things:

1. Enable AutoUpdate 2. Creates 2 bookmarks

We've deployed the GPO to a few machines, confirmed the GPO is applying via GPResult, and confirmed that there are corresponding entries in HKLM\Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox but we're not seeing the changes occurring in the browser. AutoUpdate is still disabled and greyed out (via the previously deployed local JSON config file) and the bookmarks aren't present.

Any idea why we wouldn't see the changes as effective in the browser? Browser is running 60.4.0 ESR (32-bit).

We need to use a 32 bit Firefox ESR 38.5.1 because of an outdated crucial app in our organizaton

We are in the process of upgrading from Windows7 to Windows10 and now the policies.js file, located in "c:\program files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref" does not work on the windows 10 computers.

We need to add a couple of url:// security exceptions to all Firefox browsers on these new machines and Icannot find what config file has these exceptions.

Can you tell me where there security exceptions are written to in windows 10 so that we can deploy them as part of the installation?

As an admin in our organization I wanted to add two "Add Exception..." so end users do not have to get a certificate warning and click through to two places.

One is a connection to a systray service, the url is https://127.0.0.1:51763 and to test and validate this service for the web application, one must first click test in the app, then click Advanced and Add Exception on the "Your connection is not secure" page. The second is https://tablet.sigwebtablet.com:47290/SigWeb/ which has a Thawte certificate on it, but still requires clicking through.

This is for an in house financial operating system. The vendor did place our wildcard cert on the main page which works, its just these two service test URLs cause an issue, and since we do not own these certificates, we cannot re-sign them with a trusted Subject Alternative Name.

If I can do this with Firefox CCK or Group Policy, that would be fine. We do have Firefox trust our Windows Certificate store, so maybe there is something we can do already in Group Policy and Windows Certificates? I'm not sure because the cert at 127.0.0.1 is signed by corelation.local and there are NO SAN names on it, so even trying to use GPO's to import it to the Computers Trusted Root Certificates may not be enough.

Thanks.

Hello,

I am trying to use the Mozilla Maintenance Service in order to upgrade our standard corporate Firefox 60.1.0 ESR to the latest version. We have already enabled auto updating and users who use Firefox are perfectly fine and their browser updates silently with no issues. However, we have a large number of people who don't use Firefox ESR but have it installed. We've noticed that if the browser is not in use - it will not auto update, which is an issue in our case. I know that the Mozilla Maintenance Service supports some command line parameters. I've been playing around with them for quite some time with no luck whatsoever.

The wiki I'm referring to: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Windows_Service_Silent_Update

So my questions are: 1. Can I use Mozilla Maintenance Service to launch silent upgrade on users who don't start Firefox? 2. If yes - can someone please provide some examples as to how to use the command line parameters?

Thank you very much, Boyan

We are currently trialling Firefox in our business, we need to redirect the users profile to have users bookmarks move with them when they enter meeting rooms. Currently we are using Folder Redirection with offline file syncing enabled to accomplish this. This is causing users to receive the error telling them to close Firefox as it is already running when they open Firefox on a second PC at the same time. I understand why this is happening with the lock file being created in the users roaming profile data, I am looking to find a solution that will allow users to have their data roam with them and be able to open multiple sessions on different PCs simultaneously.

What methods are you using to provide this level of functionality to users in your business?
