I am deploying Firefox ESR with a .msi extension. The more I read it seems I should be doing it different. Is there a guide to set Firefox and deploy/package it using configuration manager. I found different ways to do this on the web. I would like to do it the correct way. The last time I created a install.bat, local-settings.js, mozilla.cfg, and override.ini file to package which did not work. Since I am new to this it would be nice to have some screen shots and clear instructions to follow. I did look at the URL: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig but it gets vague about how to customize the core files. I also went to this URL: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig. Still needs some input. Thanks

Hi, I am testing the "adml/admx" file for GPO and I have noticed a problem with the "Firefox Account" when the GPO are enabled. I am on a Windows 7 x64 with Firefox 60.0.1 x64 machine. When GPO are NOT set/active, I have access to all my synchronized logins and passwords from my Firefox Account, but when GPO are applied, I lose all my logins and passwords. Is there a restriction with Firefox synch when GPO are enabled? Is this issue due to the fact that I am using the French version of Firefox on client PC? Thanks a lot. Nicky

Hello,

I'm trying to customize Mozilla ESR Firefox configuration for silent deployment. I need include some language packs and implement automatically changing UI language depending on OS language.

I have copied needful .xpi languages packs to unziped_installer\core\browser\extensions\. It installs with Firefox and visible on tab "Languages" in "about:addons".

Also, I have found parameter, which can change UI language - "intl.locale.requested". Everything works fine, but I have one problem: Installed extensions is disabled after installation.

Also, environment can exist Mozilla Firefox profiles in appdata, which I should not remove.

Could you please advise me how I can enable these extensions after installation or first user runing with help config/preferences or maybe there is some other solution?

Thanks in advance.

The new Firefox 60 ESR (x86 and x64) does strange things now. Before versions write something like: "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Firefox" "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\FirefoxHTML"

The new version writes everything full with its targetIDs: "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Firefox-3EF782B73E4DE8EA" "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\FirefoxHTML-3EF782B73E4DE8EA\shell\open\command" with Entry "Command" -> "xR([A*739AAQ}%xS^9-!>1PP%X~-.q8]xGk0a)VCS -osint -url "%1""

Or another one: in 60.0.0ESR [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications] -> "Firefox-3EF782B73E4DE8EA"="Software\\Clients\\StartMenuInternet\\Firefox-3EF782B73E4DE8EA\\Capabilities"

in 52.8.0ESR [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications] -> "Firefox"="Software\\Clients\\StartMenuInternet\\Firefox.exe\\Capabilities"

..and so on, I can list more if needed.

I think something really strange happens here. I tested it on different computers with Windows 7 32 and 64bit and Windows 10 64bit.

Is this the real intention behind the new version or will it be fixed in the installer?

Hi,

I am looking for a newer version of Mozilla Firefox for Enterprise that supports legacy plug-ins. At my work, we use Java 6 31 for Documentum and Java 8 101 to support our Oracle based applications. We currently use Firefox v54 to retain plug-in support. Is there a newer enterprise version we can use and retain support for these business critical applications?

Thanks, Brandon

Hi togehter! Does anybody else having following problem? On a Windows Domain we have set some preferences from the new GPOs (since v.60.0) active. It works fine until some users have set "Use master password". After that Firefox will hang with "not responding" at startup and waiting for the master password, but I only can end the complete task. After I disabled the policies for that computer (or user) it's working normally and will work further with enabled policies after I removed the master password.

Best regards, Jens

With the latest Firefox release last week I began piloting the ESR 60 it on my organization's VMware Horizon, AppVolumes, UEM platform. We've been using ESR 52 for the past year, updating it as usual and experiencing no issues. I changed nothing about my setup going from ESR 52 to ESR 60 and found that Firefox ESR 60 won't open at all when it's deployed the exact same way as 52 was. I've tried fresh installs and installing 60 over the top of 52 with no luck. I also upgraded 52 ESR to the latest 52.8 release with no issue.

In short, Firefox doesn't open up at all. It crashes immediately. I deleted my UEM Archives, Backups, and the %appdata%\Mozilla folder from my profile and FF 60 finally opened. But once I closed and opened it a few times, it is back to not opening again--and this time deleting my profile doesn't seem to help.

I've disabled UEM DirectFlex and that has not helped either.

Looking for any guidance for deploying into a virtual desktop environment. I presume this is an issue with ESR 60 rather than VMware products since I have no such issue with 52.

Also Using Win7 x64 Enterprise FWIW

Here's what my logs are looking like: crash.main.2 1526330757 455d87f3-b927-4f52-84f3-29fd44211392 ServerURL=https://crash-reports.mozilla.com/submit?id={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}&version=60.0&buildid=20180503164101 StartupTime=1526330756 SafeMode=0 ProductName=Firefox Vendor=Mozilla InstallTime=1526330708 CPUMicrocodeVersion=0x42c ReleaseChannel=esr Version=60.0 StartupCrash=1 BuildID=20180503164101 ProductID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384} CrashTime=1526330757 UptimeTS=16.51687 SecondsSinceLastCrash=48 BlockedDllList= User32BeforeBlocklist=1 SystemMemoryUsePercentage=28 TotalVirtualMemory=8796092891136 AvailableVirtualMemory=8794780155904 TotalPageFile=10735030272 AvailablePageFile=8725798912 TotalPhysicalMemory=6441984000 AvailablePhysicalMemory=4628758528 MozCrashReason=MOZ_RELEASE_ASSERT(globalObj) ThreadIdNameMapping=6764:"Gecko_IOThread",5628:"Timer",8156:"Link Monitor",1816:"Socket Thread",3432:"JS Watchdog",

Using a Windows AD Domain. Approx 100 workstations. I'd like to check if Firefox is already installed, and if so, update it to the latest version. I understand there is an auto-update function for Firefox but it only runs if Firefox is running. We need to keep Firefox up to date whether it's running or not.

Any insights would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm installing Firefox on all new computers that I sell at my store, and I install it on all computers coming in for service. These are the customizations I'm doing: 1)Displaying Menu Bar and Bookmarks Toolbar 2)Adding our support URL to the Bookmarks and Bookmarks Toolbar 3)Setting network to no proxy 4)Installing the Canadian English Dictionary from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/canadian-english-dictionary/ 5)Setting Firefox to the default browser and always check if it's the default browser.

I've been using CCK2 by Mike Kaply, but it doesn't appear to work with FF61.

Am I right in thinking that I need to create a policies.json with customizations I need?

If so, are these the settings I need? {

 "policies": {
   "DisplayBookmarksToolbar": true
   "DontCheckDefaultBrowser": false
   "Extensions": {
         "Install": ["https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/canadian-english-dictionary/"]
    }
   "Bookmarks": [
     {
       "Title": "Our Support Page",
       "URL": "http://Support.url",
       "Placement": ["toolbar"],
       "Folder": "FolderName"
     }
    "Bookmarks": [
     {
       "Title": "Our Support Page",
       "URL": "http://Support.url",
       "Placement": ["menu"],
       "Folder": "FolderName"
     }
     "Proxy": {
     "Mode": ["none"]
     }
   "SearchEngines": {
     "Default": "Google",
     "PreventInstalls": [true]
   }
 }

}

Where do I place this file? Does it only affect brand new installations, or if I do an reinstall/upgrade, can I apply new customizations? Do the customizations affected all new profiles created?

Thanks!

It is vital to us to know the date when Firefox ESR will automatically update from current version 52.x to 60. We are using NPAPI plugins which must continue to work for some time in the future.

According to future releases blog, ESR 60.0 is released on May 8th, and on August 28th is end of life for ESR 52 and release of ESR 60.2.0 when no further updates will be offered for ESR52 and an update to ESR 60.2.0 will be provided through the application update service.

https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2018/01/11/announcing-esr60-policy-engine/

So, when will ESR AUTOMATICALLY start to update on version 60?

May 8th, August 28th or some other date?

Thanks, regards Ivica
