I am deploying Firefox ESR with a .msi extension. The more I read it seems I should be doing it different. Is there a guide to set Firefox and deploy/package it using configuration manager. I found different ways to do this on the web. I would like to do it the correct way. The last time I created a install.bat, local-settings.js, mozilla.cfg, and override.ini file to package which did not work. Since I am new to this it would be nice to have some screen shots and clear instructions to follow. I did look at the URL: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig but it gets vague about how to customize the core files. I also went to this URL: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig. Still needs some input. Thanks

I run an enterprise of 24K employees that all have local administrative rights; users have installed firefox over the years into multiple different locations, and all users have computers with multiple disks/volumes, so knowing up-front where to put a configuration file to customize Firefox has always been a challenge/impossibility.

The GPO additions in Firefox 60 allow me to configure 99% of what I need to, however there are certain other settings that are needed (one example is general.useragent.override.<domain> which is necessary to tell our SSO system which IWA system in the corporate forest to bounce the user to for IWA to work properly). I can get things working perfectly if I confgure the settings manually in about:config, but how can I either 1) define the settings in a GPO item or 2) define the URL of a json/js file that contains the settings via GPO.

As stated, I know I can use a local file to set this up, but the whole point of GPO is to configure software centrally without regard to where in the system a user may have installed it.

We are trying to set up a central autoconfig.js file on a server by Firefox doesn't seem to load the file.

I've read https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-autoconfig and I think I followed the instructions but when trying to add a new site to network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris it doesn't get added.

I changed the autoconfig.js file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref" and included the two following lines

pref("autoadmin.global_config_url","http://nritcssqlp02/Reports/browse/Custom/mozilla.cfg"); pref("autoadmin.global_config_url.obscure_value", 0);

I also tried making mozilla.cfg --> mozilla.js to see if that would work, but it did not.

I added NSPR_LOG_FILE and NSPR_LOG_MODULES=MCD:5 as environment variables to try and get some logging to see what was going on.

When I open my log file the last line I see is [Main Thread]: D/MCD mcd http request failed with status 191

I tried changing the file from a URL to a location on our file sever and I don't get an error, instead I just get [Main Thread]: D/MCD running MCD url file://nrfsapp/region/donnellyr/FirefoxESR/mozilla.cfg

Nothing after that.

If I'm reading the documentation correctly, I'm supposed to use the autoconfig.js file on the PC to load the local .cfg file as well as point to where my central file is located. If the central file is different it should over-write the local .cfg file.

Is there anything else I can do for testing purposes? Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks.

Hi togehter! Does anybody else having following problem? On a Windows Domain we have set some preferences from the new GPOs (since v.60.0) active. It works fine until some users have set "Use master password". After that Firefox will hang with "not responding" at startup and waiting for the master password, but I only can end the complete task. After I disabled the policies for that computer (or user) it's working normally and will work further with enabled policies after I removed the master password.

Best regards, Jens

Good day.

I have our own Certificate Authority (CA) that we need to add to Mozilla Firefox Browser, as ive researched that Firefox has its own certificate management.

But we need to add it programmatically, as we have our own .net application that automatically adds our certificates to IE, Edge and Chrome for our clients.

I have used Firefox version 59. Since i don't have experience on creating a code on doing this, i looked around and came across a solution. but it didn't work with either our .cer or pem certificates.

https://github.com/christian-korneck/firefox_add-certs - i think this will only work with Firefox 39.

I found another article, which has several solutions. and towards the end someone says from Firefox 58, it only uses cert9.db

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1435000/programmatically-install-certificate-into-mozilla

But i cannot find any cert8.db or cert9.db on the firefox folders. Even if i add my certificate manually. there is no profile folder generated.

I am not stuck in this problem. I hope anyone can give me an accurate working code solution for windows ( either through a command script , batch file or a powershell script), that i can add our certificate to Firefox 59 certificate store.

Thanks for your help and support,

Rommel

My company uses Microsoft Software Center (MSC) to deploy software including Firefox ESR, so if I upgrade to the latest version MSC just downgrades it and then Firefox prompts again. The Firefox ESR options are not set to 'Never check for Updates..." and the 'policies' set by my company do not allow me to change the option permanently (even though I can check the option, it does not get saved). The relevant team in my company have said they will not change the option to "Never check for Updates ....".

We are trying to deploy Firefox 60 ESR using a json polices file. The problem is that when it tries to update from 60.0.1 to 60.0.2 we get a prompt for admin rights.

Firefox is trying to install a new helper tool.

What is the best way to deploy 60ESR in a enterprise environemnt (we have Jamf) to auto update with out the end user needing administrative rights, or any pop up's as well. I was under the impression that functionality was out of the box. If i need to add to my json fiel that is fine, i just cant find a policy that would do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using a Windows AD Domain. Approx 100 workstations. I'd like to check if Firefox is already installed, and if so, update it to the latest version. I understand there is an auto-update function for Firefox but it only runs if Firefox is running. We need to keep Firefox up to date whether it's running or not.

Any insights would be helpful. Thanks.

I'm deploying an SSL certificate to lots of macOS computers. I have a script that installs it into the system keychain, and Safari and Chrome pick it up no problem. It doesn't pick it up in Firefox unless I manually install it in the browser (Privacy & Security/View Certificates/Import).

Is there a way for me to place a file or run a script so I can deploy the fix en masse?

I am trying to use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager to push a firefox install. Typically, you guys are rockstars and Firefox is one of the most simple programs to install - Kudos for writing your code well! Anyways, I am having an issue with my uninstall method and detection method. Basically, it seems like firefox can either install in Program Files (x86), or the standard 64-bit program files folder. This is giving me issues, because I can't tell how it chooses where to install it. So what I did was make this the detection method:

Either "C:\Program Files (x86)\mozilla firefox" exists OR "C:\Program Files\mozilla firefox" exists. Then to uninstall, I do a rmdir /s /q on both folders, to delete them, so that SCCM recognizes that the program is uninstalled. However, Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, after uninstallation, creates a folder called "to be deleted," which I can't delete. Therefore, I get errors trying to delete this folder, SCCM thinks that firefox is still installed because that folder exists, so you can see the problem.

I COULD add a restart and then delete the folder (as the "to be deleted" folder gets deleted on restart), but I am just wondering if there is a better way.

How does the installer chose whether to install 32- or 64-bit? I have been testing only on 64-bit Windows 10, and I have seen it install in both directories.

Where does it get this default profile from, and is it possible to customize the default profile, so if another user will launch firefox for first time, it will copy this customized profile?
