Migration of Thunderbird

My PC with Thunderbird installed and running shut down suddenly as a result of a fire on the motherboard. I was able to recover the hard drive and copy most of my files etc to a new machine. I followed the instructions for transferring the thunderbird profiles from the hard disc to my new machine.

Although the transferred profiles on the new machine appear to contain folders and emails, they will not load into the programme and the thunderbird display remains devoid of any user data. I then tried to do the transfer using MosBackup. This told me that the profile was damaged.

I know that migration should take place with thunderbird shut down, but unfortunately the shut down of the old machine was sudden and catastrophic and did not shut down thunderbird in a planned way.

Please can anyone help.

My computer recently was fried by a power surge. The HDD is unaffected, so I am looking to transfer my profile and email history to a new PC. I have Thunderbird installed on the new system. I have gone through and copied the "app data" in both local and roaming folders from the old HDD to the new computer. Still noting showing up when I launch Thunderbird, except to set up a new account. Any advice on how to get this up and running? Seems like the version on the old PC was not the same latest as I just downloaded on the new system.

I have attempted to complete this process but Thunderbird crashes every time and does not import any of my email messages or folders. I will NEED to be able to do this to continue to use Thunderbird. Otherwise I'll seek another solution. Thanks.

Migrating profile help - blank

I've set up a new pc, installed Thunderbird and copied the contents of my old profile into the new profile. Everything works fine when I first start TB, but the next time I start I have a blank(ish) screen - the menus are there, the template is there and the 'windows' are showing, but are all blank (i.e. no folders, no emails, no accounts).

If I then re-start in safe mode one of my accounts is missing (an exchange server via Owl). Presumably this is because the owl addon is disabled?

When I then try and open TB after I've started in safe mode, the whole program won't load. (but will re-load in safe mode).

If I re-copy the profile across, the whole cycle starts again.

If I re-copy and open into the working version, then disable all add-ons, it doesn't improve (will only open in safe mode).

I have also tried renaming the profile that TB created on the PC to match the name of the profile I'm copying the contents of, incase there was an internal link, and changed the profile JSON file to refer to this, but that didn't help.

I can just re-do the accounts and reinstall the add-ons, but I've got a lot of useful things set up, like quick folders, filtering rules, quick text that are with these add ons that I'd rather not have to start again with.

Any help is appreciated.

PDF on Firefox Android auto download and wont stop downdloading

Any PDF download through Firefox Android, will not STOP DOWNLOADING after its initiated. Only 'Force Stop' of Firefox app makes it stop. It does continue to use data.

Since all PDFs are automatically downloaded, this is a huge problem. Often a weblink doesnt indicate its for a pdf so Im not able to avoid most downloads.

Unlike Firefox for Desktop/laptop, Firefox for Android doesnt have settings to deal with downloads, to request 'always ask' before a download is initiated.

About:Config hasnt been helpful either. It remains downloading even if i quit firefox.

-I cant stop or cancell download in drop down on cell through download manager.

-Force stopping Download Manager in App settings wont stop download.

-Cutting off mobile data or wifi wont stop download. -Only force stop of Firefox App in phone settings is able to clear download from continuing.

This situation has made it clear, that desktop/laptop Firefox app has several choices in thier settings to mitigate this possibility, such as "Always ask" before downloading.

Why are there no features customising download in Firefox for Android settings?

Are there other ways to get this to stop than repeatedly killing the Firefox Android App in phone app settings?

Why doesnt Firefox for Android show on web page that a link is a PDF?

This problem has existed for many months through last 3 updates.

I am running both the current Firefox (version 68.10.0) and the new (later to be the new beta) Firefox (version 78.0.0-beta.1). I am very confused with the current way the updates work. The old version of Firefox does not update now, but the new version does not appear to me. I mistakenly took the “Mozilla Firefox Browser” as the new and the replacement to “Firefox Browser”, but it turns out that the new version was a beta. I am running Android 10, but doesn’t have Auto-update turned on, for fear of getting the “Storage is running out” prompt.

I wanna know if when will the new update rolls out completely to users like me, and will it be an update to the current browser. Alternatively, I want to have this thing not happen again in the future.

Hab mich auch gut dran gewöhnt, aber wenn ich Mails suche (im Eingang, Ausgang, Gesendet) dauert die Suche ewig, halbe Minute und länger. I have used Thunderbird with several POP gmail accounts. Recently, I started migrating several accounts to use IMAP, but one account is stalling, then failing in copying the POP Inbox to the IMAP inbox.

I had followed the recommended procedure and succeeded migration with two other gmail accounts. For this account, I deleted my IMAP gmails online. Then created the IMAP account by New > Existing Email Account. Then I try to copy the POP emails to the IMAP folder. All is fine at this point.

I have 900 emails in the POP inbox locally, and when copying, it hangs and stops after copying 88 emails each time. I have varied the technique a few times, and deleted the IMAP account, then reinstalled. But always, it hangs after copying the same 88 emails, then stops.

I'd appreciate if anyone has any ideas. Thanks. Carl
