How can I change URL Bar settings back after FF83 update? Bookmarks & History show up inside URL bar. Also have to click twice when switching between search engines

  • After I updated to Firefox 83, my bookmark and history shortcuts now up inside the URL bar instead of next to it (Picture 1) (I know this is part of the new update 83, how can I change this back?)
  • Additional settings for the URL bar show up (as they should) after I go to a new website. Usually these options are always there (Picture 2) However, all these options disappear (Picture 3) as soon as I type anything in the URL bar and these settings won't return until I open a new tab and go to a website.
  • Lastly, when switching between search engines I know have to click the search engine and then also click enter to complete the switch. (I know this can be 'solved' shift+clicking, but I would prefer for it not to take an extra action and revert back the old pre FF-83 way)

Does anyone have any how I can change it back? - Either by reverting back to FF82, or by using about:config

Hello, it's been a few days since I noticed that google's "in-applets" don't work properly. In example, the answers that are built in to the results page ("People also ask") can't be expanded, results for shopping searches at the top of the page can't be scrolled, business info has issues etc.

I deleted all my cache and cookies, disabled all my add ons, restarted in "safe mode" (add ons disabled), yet all the above work only on a private window (or with firefox when started to a different profile).

Any clue what can be the issue?

Thanks

Hi, Firefox rearranged my options/settings, it's probably easy to set up,but I do not know how to do it. To the point. I searches for something in browser, I click on the link ...and a new tab opens for me. Now browsing the internet, I have a million open and unnecessary tabs. I DON'T LIKE IT. How can i set it up as i had before i.e. clicking on the link, the page opened in the same tab and window??? I could use the buttons: go back to the previous page, or go to the next page.

How do you answer you own question? Anyway:

Blimey, I have sorted it. You need more than just profiles (As far as this layman can tell) to transfer your emails etc. If you have an out of date back up delete the thunderbird folder users\username\appdata\roaming\thunderbird then paste the thunderbird folder from your out of date back up in it's place then paste your up to date profiles over the same folders within the thunderbird folder...sorted. Crikey! It took me ages to work this out myself

I have found my thunderbird profiles and have followed exactly (Tried 3 times) the advise in this article: https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1273478 but when I open thunderbird it still looks like a new intallation and there is no sign of my profile emails etc.

Is the problem that i am trying to transfer data from an older version of Thunderbird? My old laptop (Also windows 10) had Thunderbird 1st intalled in February 2020. Please help!

My old windows 10 laptop died. The hardrive is fine and i have it connected to my new computer with a wavlink. I cannot find my thunderbird profiles on it. I have tried everything suggested on the internet. Please help!

I have a website with SSL. When I open it by simply www.sitename, FF automatically uses https and extends this to all sub-pages. When I open sub-pages directly, i.e. www.sitename/pagename, FF uses http and shows the insecure icon. If I open sub-pages with https://sitename/pagename, FF shows them as secure. Chrome and Edge automatically use https for sub-pages opened directly by www.sitename/pagename. Why is FF inconsistent in this way?

My Firefox browser opens all links except what appears to be links from ads or forwarding links from a site to where something is being sold.

Whenever I click on one of these I get the, "Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site." They open fine on Edge. Is there a setting on Firefox that is blocking these?

Sending e mails with an attachment from Thunderbird to Outlook 365 , each time the name of the attachment is long, the attachment name is displayed by Outlook 365 with a modified name. The modified name, as displayed by Outlook 365, starts with the initial digits of original name as sent by Thunderbird, followed by a long sequence of alphanumeric characters (e.g. %65%6E%5F%53%63%68%61%64%65%6E%5F%4C%65%74%69%7A%69%61%20%52%6F%74%61%20%28%33%29%2E%70%64%66 ) The above happens with PDF attachments . The PDF contents are not corrupted, but the file name is changed. (In the case of a .docx attachment with a the same long name, in addition to displaying the wrong name, the attachment itself became in Outlook 365 a .dat file which could not be open).

Is any configuration change I should introduce in Thunderbird to overcome this incompatibility?

Different PCs are showing the same issue. OS: Windows 2004 with the Sept 2020 Cumulative Update. Office 365 updated with the Sep 2020 update. Thunderbird 72.2.2 - 32 bit with standard settings and Unicod (UTF-8) - German Language

The problem might have been preexisting, I just noted it now. (I also wrote about the issue in a Microsoft forum, it has been initially suggested to repair Outlook 365 but this did not help, other investigation steps may still come)

Hi There,

I'm hoping someone can help me on this I have exhausted several options so far.

I am trying to access a https site using an SSL Certificate (Specifically Chain of Trust with a root, intermediate and server certificate) on Firefox, however whenever I attempt to visit the site a recurring Security Alert pop up continues to appear with the message: "A secure connection with site cannot be verified. Would you still like to proceed?" . The certificate isn't signed which is the reason for the popup.

I use the website frequently on other browsers and subsequently press yes and continue to the site, but on Firefox the same Security Alert pop continues to appear regardless of the number of times I accept it.The issue is specifically related to Firefox as I can accept the certificate on Chrome, IE and Edge and not face the same issue.

I have tried multiple options to circumvent the issue, including adding the CA's into my Trusted Root Certification Authorities on my Windows (and setting security.enterprise_roots.enabled to true), and manually importing the certificates into Firefox under the Authorities section of the Options menu, clearing cache and cookies and restarting browser/machine. I have added the hostname of the site to the hosts file, and even as a test temporarily disabled SCL validation to see if this would prevent it. However in all cases the security popup continues to reappear, in an infinite loop.

Does anyone know of any alternative ways that will allow me to proceed to the website, or circumvent the Security Alert loop problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

version 78.5.0esr I have a VMWare mint linux running on a PC. It has its own ip address. If I log into the router, I can see it. Suddenly, from today, I am unable to access that VM using vm-name:port/ but I can access it using the ip address 192.168.1.6:port within firefox. Using edge, I can access the server using both name and ip address.

This has always worked and now it is not. I have made no changes to the prefs in firefox.

Any ideas?

A simple refresh of Firefox (it would be a reset of any other browser) alleviates the problem, so I know it is in here. I don't think sharing my data will offer anything as the browser has been 'refreshed' but will if someone thinks it will help.

Hi, PDF File handling has recently changed - For the worse for me and it's become really frustrating.

When I right click a PDF file link and select "open link in new tab", why does Firefox then ask me how I want to treat the file? I just asked it to open the file in a new tab, so it should be obvious what I want to do - asking again is illogical.

Not only that, before the file handling dialog box, it opens a new tab next to the tab I'm in and then closes it when the dialog box appears - When I select the unnecessary "open in Firefox" (I just asked it to open in a new tab), it now creates a new tab at the END of my tabs and steals focus.

I also get the file handling dialog box when I ask to "save link as", when logically I should just get the save location dialog box.

How do I get the old behaviour back?

Thanks folks

Since the upgrade, the scroll bar has been working differently in folders and subfolders. The list of emails/subject lines doesn't drop with the scroll bar. (See photo) It used to be that if the list looked like this (photo), there were really only about 12-15 messages in that folder. [There are actually thousands above.] If there were more, the list would be all the way to the bottom of the bar. NOW, you have to scroll up to see the previous messages. May seem like a small matter, but it's really irritating. Is it something that I can fix? Is it a bug? Is it a "feature"? (If so, I hate it.) TIA for any help you might lend.

This seems to be a newish issue - as in, I think it has not been happening until at least a few weeks ago. The computer (linux) is always on, and firefox is also always running (except when I update to a new version). But I was not using the computer for a while. Today I sat at the computer expecting to see all my tabs that I sent to it via "send tab to device", but as soon as firefox started syncing, everything slowed down to a crawl (to the point where even typing to a terminal would have upwards to several seconds of lag). Weirdly, it doesn't seem as if there's a lot of CPU or IO being used, according to top and iotop - but I was seeing multiple "migration" processes (that went away after quitting firefox), suggesting that there are many threads doing very little work in aggregate. After googling a bit I tried setting sync.log.appender.console to Debug and looking at debug console, which didn't tell me anything interesting - it actually looks as if the sync itself completes fast. And, in fact, my bookmarks seem to have synced to today's state correctly. (restarting after updating to current version does not seem to help; running in safe mode also doesn't seem to help)

1) What's up? How do I stop this from happening?

2) How do I get my "sent" tabs? Even a list for the past 2 weeks would be fine. Working it out from browsing history would be ... a lot of needles in even more piles of hay.

My previous session didn't automatically reopen when I restarted firefox. When I went to the help section, it told me to click "restore previous session" from the menu, but I don't have that on my menu. The example shows it after "new private window", but my menu has "zoom" in that spot. I noticed that the "sync" isn't at the top of my menu either. I had this problem once before, but it was long ago, and I don't remember the solution. Hope that I'm describing my problem well enough. Frustrating for a senior, trying to stay safe.

I watch a YouTube video and then this message comes up on another YouTube tab I have open and Firefox switches to that tab and ruins my watching the video I was watching.

Is there anyway of disabling the message from ever coming up? I increased the values in dom.max_script_run_time and dom.max_script_run_time_without_important_user_input which was a possible solution I read but that does nothing.
