Hi, I've been struggling to connect Thunderbird 107.0b2 with my organization's Google Workspace Secure LDAP server for autocompleting email addresses. I understand that Thunderbird does not support the certificates needed to communicate directly with Google LDAP, so I've set up Stunnel running on a local server. I am able to look up users via Stunnel using JXplorer or ldp.exe but when I try to look up users via Thunderbird, it appears Thunderbird is communicating and getting results, but crucial fields like Name, Email Address, Nickname, Phone Numbers, Addresses, and Title all come back empty. The only field that appears to have data is Department. I've tried fiddling with the Base DN and Filter endlessly, but I cannot seem to get the necessary field data back from LDAP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The Thunderbird taskbar icon, when T-bird is visible on screen, is wide (icon+name, same as for other Windows 7 programs), but when when Thunderbird is minimized (but left running), the taskbar icon "shrinks" to its small size, as though the program has been closed. So at the end of the day when I'm ready to actually shut down all running programs, I don't know whether Thunderbird is running or not (if it's minimized), so I have to click on its taskbar icon to find out.

It's a small, but aggravating, waste of time. In short, the taskbar icon for the running-but-minimized condition should be the same as for the running-and-visible condition.

Thank you, engrollie

I cannot open, view, or download any attachment in my Hotmail email account Firefox on Windows 10 or 11.

For a year (or 2, or 3??) I have had to open MS Edge, sign into my email acct there, and D/L the attached file. When I return to Firefox, I usually have to re-log into my email account.

There are no issues doiny any of that with GMail acct.

The directions show a picture that shows the Done button having a split section with a drop down menu. I don't have that. It does go to a pop up with options, but when I try to hit print, it asks me to sign in. What am I signing in to? I think I am already signed in to firefox, so why doesn't it know that. But it's suggesting gmail, and others, and saying it's for a free trial. I thought ff was providing this through their browser, why is it talking about a free trial? What is it a free trial of? Why am I going to google?

I upgraded from 91 to 102.2.2 on two of my Linux Mint systems and now only inbox and Trash folders are shown. Subscribe doesn't work. Only way I've found to see other folders is to go to settings, server settings, advanced and uncheck Show only subscribed folders. This results in a loot of folders that I don't want to see. I have a third Linux Mint system that has Thunderbird 91 and it works as expected and as it has for many years. When I try to subscribe the Activity Manager shows

The current command did not succeed. The mail server for account {email address appears here) responded: SUBSCRIBE failed.

It seems through the years that there have been problems in this area but I didn't have any in 91.

I didn't find this being a reported problem in 102.2.2 but may have missed it. Anyone have a way to make Subscribe work? Thanks.

For the last 2 weeks I have not been able to get my Thunderbird instance at work to connect to my IMAPs server at home. Today I started to try to fix it by just creating a new "Account" within Thunderbird. I always have to switch to Manual because it is not a standard email service that Thunderbird knows about. I have to change the auto-filled username for the IMAP account for instance. But it does not connect. (For the first time in many years...)

When I looked at the server log, I noticed this: "2022-11-03 13:03:11 imap-login: Info: Disconnected (no auth attempts in 0 secs): user=<>, rip=159.192.98.165, lip=192.168.1.3, TLS: SSL_read() failed: Unknown error, session=<frpFtorsQMKfwGKl>"

The username (which is filled out in the settings) does not get sent. This must be some kind of bug.

Outgoing e-mail to att.net fails with latest Secure Mail Key using Thunderbird version 102.4.1 (64-bit).

When I was using a much older version of Thunderbird, the Secure Mail Key (#1) worked fine for both Get Message and Send. Upgrading to a more recent version of Thunderbird caused both Get Message and Send to seem to timeout with no error message and when I would try again, Thunderbird would prompt me for the password. I had to re-enter the Secure Mail Key #1 manually, but this produced the same results.

I went to att.net and created a new Secure Mail Key (#2). I used this as my Get Message password and it worked, but Send still failed. After a Send failure, Get Message also failed.

I went to att.net again and created a new Secure Mail Key (#3) and using this as my Get Message password worked and I checked the box to "Use Password Manager to remember this password", but Send still failed. Get Message still works while Thunderbird was still active.

If I exited from Thunderbird and started it again, it would prompt me for the password again as if its Password Manager wasn't working. I re-entered Secure Mail Key (#3) and checked the "remember" box again, but NOTHING happened. When I clicked on "Get Message" it prompted me again for the password. I re-entered Secure Mail Key (#3) and checked the "remember" box again, and at the bottom of Thunderbird's window it displayed "host contacted, sending login". This continued to display for more than a minute, but then this went away with no further information shown -- as if it had timed out. Normally, it would have shown the number of messages received or would have displayed "No new messages found" (or words to that effect). If I click on Get Messages again, it prompts me for the password again.

So the bottom line is that doing a Send results in a failure that causes all subsequent Get Messages to also fail. It's not clear why "Use Password Manager to remember this password" doesn't seem to be working, unless any login failure (Send or Get Message) resets the "remember" flag in Thunderbird.

I've done a chat with AT&T and they claim that it's a problem with Thunderbird.

My outgoing server (SMTP) settings are set to "AT&T - outbound.att.net (Default)" using port 465, the user name is my e-mail address at att.net, other settings are normal password, SSL/TSL. This has never changed.

Google Drive complains that it can't complete because it can't upload parent.lock. The obvious workaround is to kill Thunderbird (and clean up all its processes), delete parent.lock, and restart. Easy enough for me but my friends are going nuts over this.

A related issue is that it is unwise (and difficult) to move one's profile into the Documents directory where it would automatically be backed up. To leave profiles in AppData means that the mail folders won't get backed up unless one specifically configures backup programs to grab them. Not a good default!
