Hi,

Using Firefox version 83.0 on MacBook Pro 2019 16 inch model. When I pause a video on any webpage, I hear a sudden loud "crack" sound from the speakers. It also happens when I unpause, jump backward or forward in the video. If I mute the sound of the video and try to pause/unpause, there is no problem.

I checked the same situation with other browsers. There are no problems with them.

I hope there is a solution to this.

Thanks.

Yesterday I updated Ubuntu to Jammy Jellyfish; this upgrade included replacing Firefox with Firefox-snap. I lost my history, passwords, bookmarks, and the links on my homepage. When I try to import history, Firefox can't find anywhere to import it from.

Does anyone know how to restore things, or failing that, how to install a version of Firefox that will allow me to access the files that may still be on my system?

Contents of my ~/.mozilla/firefox folder:

drwx------ 2 peter peter 4096 Jun 8 2020 cmdnc7p7.default drwx------ 5 peter peter 4096 Aug 25 08:07 'Crash Reports' -rw-rw-r-- 1 peter peter 62 Jun 8 2020 installs.ini drwx------ 2 peter peter 4096 Aug 1 2020 'Pending Pings' -rw-rw-r-- 1 peter peter 259 Jun 8 2020 profiles.ini drwx------ 2 peter peter 4096 Sep 2 14:25 szlx617q.default-release

I believe cmdnc7p7 to be the current version, and szxl617q to be the old one,

but am clueless beyond that.

HP laptop, Win 10 ver 21H1, Firefox 104.0.1 (64) Hi... I'm 72 so please type slow. This just started happening a few months ago... every time that Firefox installs a new update it takes forever for the first web site/page to open after starting FF. I can click on an existing bookmark or type in a location, go fix a coffee or drink, stop at the bathroom, return to my desk and the page/site still hasn't loaded yet. Fiddle with this, fiddle with that, click here or there... still no joy. Close ff, open ff... several times... nothing. What eventually works... click ff menu, click help, click get help, wait.. several minuets for the change from arrow to finger than click on anything listed. Once the window responds to my click everythings good and ff starts working again. All things considered... not a big deal, but perhaps you could suggest something that would speed up the process a bit... maybe a few less key strokes as my memory isn't quite what it once was when it comes to remember how I did something. Thanks...

Long time Firefox/Mozilla user. Installed/upgraded/migrated on Win, Android, Linux (various distros) over the years.

This might also be relevant to the Sync topic.

Built a new Win 10 system 11/21. Installed Firefox, logged in and Enabled Sync. Installed licensed Adobe photo editing software. No problems. Used for 2 weeks.

Spent 5 months in hospital.

Back home, used new PC for ~45 days; Win 10 went wiggy on me after an update - could not get to Settings menu ya da ya da. It went downhill from there. No identifiable hardware issues (tested memory and (.m2) boot drive, etc

Tried many fixes to Windows while trying to keep user data. Ended up reinstalling Win 10 (multiple times...). System working, but no bookmarks/passwords. Installed Firefox. Of course, it didn't work - understandibly.

Went to old PC, Firefox does not seem to give me the option to *see* my login password); looked up Firefox password (I hated to do it, but with ~500 userid/passwords, I started to let FF manage these a few years back). Found it. Went to new box and logged in. Password error. Digging deeper, it *appears* that the present password was set circa 2015 and the Firefox saved password was set circa 2021.

I've now been fussing with this a week. Searching, searching; trying pretty much everything I can think of. Nothing works.

Any path forward besides changing passwords on all of the involved (~20+) devices?

Now I need to try to recall where I put the recovery key ... (yes, I have since embarked on an extensive backup/restore point campaign which includes backing up backup system software).

duplicate. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1388293

If you don't write an answer here publicly, on how to disable updates and stop all pop-ups and automatic downloads of said updates, i will come to your offices within 2 weeks and do something really bad.

Right now I'm giving you a choice. It's all in your hands what happens next. Will you write me an answer for all to see...or will you delete this. Live with the consequences.

Dear Folks, I am new here, Introducing , my name is Pendragon... I've been searching for a solution for ages now, and i can't find it The question is : "HOW do I Set Firefox to open a new tab When opening a link within a Web Page Automatically  ? Reason: I find it very confusing, when the links I open (from the same web page) end up on the same TAB -->I never know how to shut the new page down eg by either clicking the back arrow or close the page (Black X)--> If I choose the wrong option, I loose the original page. Can anyone please suggest a solution? Many thanks

When you start typing something to search on the internet, a search suggestions start to appear and they have this blue background color (see the screenshot). How can I change that color to something else? I don't like this blue color, it reminds me of Windows. I searched in about:config for color #0063e1 but there's nothing there, so I'm guessing this will be done by userChrome.css.

Firefox stops working from time to time displaying this error: Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at google.com.

Then, after several hours, Firefox starts working again.

All other browsers work all the time. The only troubleshooting clue i found is that restarting the computer solves the problem, i.e. browser works after restarting. Then stops again.

I reinstalled Firefox several time. What should be my next step in finding out where the problem is? thnx

Imaging there is some bug in the audio driver on your operating system Any call you made to any audio-playing API will lead to severe problems (e.g. segmentation fault) How can you use firefox in that environment? How to prevent firefox from calling ANY audio-related APIs?

That buggy audio service on my OS is pipewire (bug still exists in latest version 1:0.3.56) Firefox randomly freezes when a sound is played, and the freeze may lasts for minutes

Yesterday I received a prompt to update Firefox. In the update box it said that passwords/logins would not be impacted. After the update was complete, I discovered that all of my login/password information disappeared. I spent hours yesterday on the forums trying to find a fix. I did move the files from the Old Firefox data into the current profile and yet the logins/passwords are still not there. I am not sure what to do at this point, it's very distressing.

This has been bothering me for a while, but with the start of a new semester and working on many different machines, it's been happening a lot more frequently. Let me explain:

Problem: My homepage for a new window will seemingly at random change to a file in `file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html` despite my profile having a setting for `browser.startup.homepage` to be `about:home`.

Expected Behavior: I set my homepage to `about:home` and this is respected by the system and does not change.

After some digging, I've tracked down the cause (but not the issue) Steps to reproduce: 1) On my linux desktop (Rocky Linux 8.5 -- a RHEL clone; KDE; Firefox 91.13) I set `browser.startup.homepage` to be `about:home` 2) On a Windows machine (I'm not 100% certain if I can replicate with other non-Windows systems) open firefox and login to my firefox account and run a sync. 3) Back on my linux box, when I open a new window, the homepage has changed to no longer be `about:home`.

What seems to be happening is that a sync will simply delete the `browser.startup.homepage` preference line entirely from the `prefs.js` file for my profile.

On the Windows machines (I have not checked macs, or ubuntu boxes I use), the "default" homepage setting (i.e., what happens when the `browser.startup.homepage` line is deleted from the prefs.js file) goes to `about:home`. On my Rocky Linux box, the "default" setting seems to be inheriting the homepage from a file named `all-redhat.js`. Or at least, I think that's where this comes from.

My temporary solution is to: > In about:config try toggling the preference services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage to false on the laptop / desktop devices. (from: https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1273715 )

I'm guessing this will work for now.

However, my actual question is to track down how these default settings are coming from!

On the linux box, in the directory `/usr/lib64/firefox/defaults/` I have `pref/channel-prefs.js` and `preferences/all-redhat.js`. There is no `mozilla.cfg` or really any way I see that `all-redhat.js` is loaded. The `all-redhat.js` file does have a pref setting for the `browser.startup.homepage` to set it to be `data:text/plain,browser.startup.homepage=file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html`.

The windows boxes are a little different in that they do have a mozilla.cfg that gets explicitly loaded and in the mozilla.cfg sets a homepage in a similar way. However, the behavior, as described above, is different. The `about:home` seems to be a default, despite the homepage setting in mozilla.cfg.

What I'd like to know is: What is the loading priority of these config files, and how is the best way to setup a system that behaves consistently across OSes? While syncing works great for the most part, trying to understand the mechanics of the preference/profile loading is really making me scratch my head! Does redhat (and its clones) just do things differently?
