Sorry to hear about these problems! The first step would be to verify that this is indeed caused by Firefox. In Android's settings, you have an item called "Battery". In there, you should be able to see how many % of the CPU is used by various apps. What are the top 3 items you see there? Is Firefox at the top?

Another thing: when you're using Firefox, you can press and hold the Home button of your phone. This will bring up the Task Manager. There, you should be able to see if Firefox is draining the CPU in real time. The entry would appear in red letters if that's the case. From that screen, you can force quit the app, removing the need for you to reboot the entire phone.

When the hang happens, it is indeed Firefox that's causing it, coming up in red on the Task Manager. The problem is that even when I forcibly exit the app, the phone tends to not cool down quickly and it would lead me to believe that some processes are still running/hanging somewhere. As far as Firefox appearing on the battery screen, I'll need to check this the next time it hangs.

When Firefox hangs, the phone becomes unresponsive and takes a few minutes to exit to the main screen or to bring up the task manager. By that point in time it has heated quite considerably and by the time it does allow me to kill the process, a considerable amount of battery has gone regardless.

Strange. I have had no problems running Firefox 20 (or earlier versions) for Android on my Galaxy S2 (original GT-I900 version) on both ICS and Jelly Bean.

The reason I ask that we have had problems with various chipsets where Firefox for some reason wouldn't work on the North American version of a phone but works fine on the more popular European version and the problem turned out to be subtle differences between the North American and European chipsets..

I'm using the base "GT-I9100" from the Middle East. No odd variant or anything. Not sure if you need the Baseband, Kernel or Build info. A white version of my black phone (with the same info screen) doesn't seem to have the same problem so I'm not 100% sure why this specific handset has issues. Is there perhaps a list of apps known to cause problems with Firefox on Android? Alternatively, is there a way to completely wipe Firefox data that doesn't involve rooting my phone? I'd really like to avoid that process. It has been suggested that I root the phone and check if there are any odd Firefox related files that need removing. I'm dubious whether that is worth the hassle. I know that uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox hasn't helped.

Hmmm nyth I too am using the base original GT-I900 version, so could it be you have hardware issues, perhaps check that if you haven't already? (especially since Firefox for Android works on the white version). Don't know how I can help further other than:
