The quick and easy way to remove babylon and restore your settings is to do a reset - Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

If you want to be sure to not to change to many other things, you can remove the babylon add-ons and then use the search reset add-on to change back the settings that babylon changed. Instructions for that are here - Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page

Thank you but I have to add that solution to the long list of things that do not work. A heard drive reformat is the only real answer so far.

Babylon virus is a very pernicious bug. All previous solutions no longer work. I am concerned that a program so embedded may have serious intentions and consequences. It is beyond Mozilla/Chrome control and that can only mean damaging intentions in the future. It is designed so that users give up and just continue to use it. It's functionality can be turned at any time. National security? Possible. Mozilla needs to attack this legally. And they must release a software patch. Urgent.

Note: Both reset Firefox and Unwanted Tool Bar Removal solutions do not work, if anyone is following this carefully.

Uninstalling Babylon in W7 does not work. About: config does not work.

jaguar6cy, you should totally be able to remove Babylon without reinstalling Windows (that is a very drastic solution for this simple problem):

First, do the following:

go to Start, Control Panel, Uninstall a program. You'll need to uninstall everything in here related to Babylon (Babylon Toolbar, Babylon, B-manager, broswerprotection, etc. Restart your Computer after removing.

Then, open up Firefox. Go to the Firefox button, then Add-ons, then Extensions. remove anything related to Babylon. restart Firefox.

Then, install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/.

\You shouldn't be seeing Babylon after this. if you do, let me know where it is and I'll help you further.

Hello, Did the first two multiple times. The add on was just installed. FFX restarted. About config shows 3 Babylon entries rather than 30. But that is not significant because Babylon reinstalls itself. eg. A config search copy/paste shows: browser.search.defaultenginename;Search the web (Babylon) browser.search.order.1;Search the web (Babylon) browser.search.selectedEngine;Search the web (Babylon) I could reset them again, but I have already done that many times. The 30 Babylon entries always reinstall.

MalwareBytes and MS Security do not identify it either. This is more than a common virus, it is too embedded. Someone needs this to be pervasive and ready.

So you ran through all the steps I gave you? where are you till seeing babylon at?

This is why I am very concerned and why I was looking for someone who had successfully removed it. The web is full of solutions, but none are effective.

3,430,000 search hits on babylon removal today. There appears to be no answer. This appears to be a serious problem for search engines including FFX, Chrome and IE.

I followed it using the following direction: "Uninstall "Browser Manager" + "Bprotector" + "Object Installer" + "Babylon Toolbar on IE". But only Browser Manager would appear. I could not identify or uninstall the other three programs in Add/Remove. Suspicious at best. Now I have no babylon addons under about:config, and that is amazing progress. However AOL used to show an AOL icon in the address bar. That icon still appears to remain as Babylon. The same occurs with Youtube. W7 search shows no Babylon, about config shows no Babylon and all else seems to be working. I am still concerned about those address bar icons. Because Babylon is not legitimate, open or trustworthy I want to eliminate those icons as well. Can those icons be changed?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Do you still see the Babylon site if you do a search on the about:config page?

I successfully uninstalled it. I went to every browser I had and deleted it. Then in FFX i did the about:config and search babylon and "reset" every piece. after doing that I have no current babylon issue.

You were very fortunate to get an older version of the Babylon virus. The newer "improved" version installs a totally separate, disguised and totally unidentified program titled Browser Manager. While that is still on the hard drive, about:config resets will not work, as the last Babylon file, of 30 total Babylon files, cannot be reset, not by you and not even by Mozilla. When FFX restarts, this program re-installs Babylon, and you never knew it was there.

There are so many Firefox users complaining about Babylon, including myself. The Babylon Company's search/toolbar is clearly acting like malware/spyware the way it is installed and by the difficulty of removal. I believe that all Firefox users and the Mozilla team should file complaints with the Federal Trade Bureau of Consumer protection (ftccomplaintassistant.gov). I filed a claim today and would love to initiate a movement to eradicate this problem.

Tried everything and finaly worked for me deleting of C:/Program data/Browser manager folder.Be sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and you have entered into SAFE MODE
