Firefox crashes 5 seconds after starting without a without creating a crash report, the process simply stops.

after starting firefox, the browser is loading the the startup page. original firefox startup page, no addons are installed and a single tab has to be loaded in firefox. 5 seconds after the window has opened, it just disappears and the firefox process just ends. in the taskmanager (Windows XP) the process starts and then just disapears after 5 seconds. no crash report and no message from windows. after 5 or 6 times starting, firefox opens and runs. but one or two hours idling and firefox does not respond anymore. It freezes and stays on top of the screen, no window or other programm is able to be viewed on the screen. I like FF realy much and don´t want to change my browser, so please help me.
