log-in to my account failed
When I interact with Thunderbird, ie send a message, I get a prompt 'log-in to server imap.googlemail.com with username denis.postle@gmail failed options are: 'retry', 'enter new password', or 'cancel'. I have checked the saved passwords, when I tried them they were rejected. I tried a new password, that was also rejected. What to do?
NB This began yesterday after google apparently turned on 2-step verification. I have have turned it off.

Hello,
Google no longer uses raw password verification. You may need to change your servers from *.googlemail.com to *.gmail.com, but you will need to change your auth method from password to oauth, a better signin method. After you do this, a google login should pop up so that you can authorize Thunderbird.
