Hi there.

Not being able to find the right place to easily ask your question sound frustrating at the very least. Hopefully I can help to answer your question here to mitigate some of that frustration.

Regarding your search question: There are a large amount of variables that go into search rankings across the internet these days. Things like site page views, paid ranking advertising, how many times the product has been mentioned online, the number of similar products in the market, how long products have been in the market, how often users search for specific items, how many people are actively using a product, etc, etc, etc.

The Mozilla VPN product has been on the market only for about 1 year at this point, while the VPN market has been growing significantly for several years already. One big thing Mozilla has going for it is that its a trusted brand in privacy and security which gives an edge over a good portion of the current market. The brand name however can only get us so far. It cannot make up for other products that have been in the market longer, have gathered large amounts of users, and have had time to fully flesh out their product feature wise.

A last note to consider here is specifically about your search. You noted you searched "What's the best VPN" in google. This search in my opinion is too loosely defined to give you good search results, however, it does get you closer to an answer. I did the same search in Firefox, google, duckduckgo, and safari. Within the results I noticed some similarities, mainly that there are many blog posts and articles of various entities ranking VPNs (top ten VPNs in 2020, top 5 VPNs in 2021, etc). If you take the time to review a couple of them you will no doubt find a few names that keep being mentioned across different ranking articles. I personally would use that as a shortlist of potential products that would to investigate further.

This is a long and verbose response and for that I apologize. Hopefully it helped.
