tbsync won't connect to gmail account
I have been using TB for many years, but with the latest update to version 78 I cannot connect my Google contact list as the addon I used is not longer compatible. The suggestions I have read about is to use TBSync, which I have installed, but I can't get it to connect to my Google account. Each time I try autodiscover I get a message saying it has failed. I tried to manually enter the server name, but that wouldn't work either.
I can't find any support instructions in the Add In web site or on the Mozilla support site. Can anyone help?
Can I revert to an earlier version of Thunderbird?

I have TbSync and Provider for CalDAV and CardDAV installed to sync with Google Contacts. A Google (Address Book) appears in Address Book, and the contacts sync both way between TB and Contacts. But TB mailing lists and Contacts labels don't seem to sync.
The process is fairly easy: Tools/Sync Settings (TbSync), Account Actions/Add new account/CalDAV & CardDAV, Google, complete the OAuth2 login. The 'Resource' that should be checked in the TbSync window is Address Book, to sync with Google Contacts.

Thanks, I didn't try the CalDAV provider as I thought it was for calendars only.
thanks looks like it doesn't support v78?

Okay, I have TBsync installed today. In Thunderbird 78.4.1, I am unable to find a menu pick to configure the add-on. My goal is to sync with Google contacts.
In the main window, press Alt if the Menu Bar is hidden, then Tools/Synchronization Settings (TbSync).
OK, found it it's not part of the addon options but have it's separate menu item (attached a screenshot)
quick question about tbsync?
can I configure it to have read permission only and not editing? I want to give my employees to ability to look into my addressbook, but not to modify it
thanks again
I think you just have to select read-only in the settings (see picture), which might work if employees don't change it.
No choice to add Google here.
See the attached picture from today's new version. Existing Google Address Book appears to still work.
When I add an existing Google Address Book, nothing happens, no new account is added.
CardBook can sync Google Contacts. Tests confirm that contact sync works both ways.
Thanks sfhowes, CardBook did the trick!
One drawback of CardBook, no labels so no address book groups. :<{
I have a similar issue that Google isn't coming up as an option when I add a CalDAV account. It did on my other computer, not this one. Any ideas on that?

Thunderbird says Cardbook is not compatible.

Install the version that's compatible with your version of TB:
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/cardbook/versions/
Sadly the developer of TbSync and the Caldav/CardDav provider has decided to withdraw support for Google sync so it will stop working as the add-on is updated.
So I'd forgotten to install the beta version of TBsync which is compatible with Thunderbird 78. Once I installed that, everything worked. They're stopping support for Google you say? Any alternatives here as this works brilliantly and nearly instantly for calendar events at least?
I'm using CardBook which does what I need
