Can't send emails
I have upgraded to Windows 10 and reinstalled Thunderbird but it will not send messages. I have tried everything recommended but nothing works. I have attached a snip of the error message.

Do you have a third-party antivirus product installed? Are you using a VPN? Did you update your network adapter's driver from your device manufacturer's support website?
Thanks for such a prompt reply. I've checked the usual problems - not the anti virus, not using a VPN. Sorry. Have no idea what the last sentence even means. What's a network adaptor? Could this be the issue?
What are your smtp settings? They should be smtp.virginmedia.com on port 465, SSL/TLS, authentication = normal password, User Name = email address.
You state the antivirus is not the cause, but have you run in Windows safe mode to confirm this?
Yes, those are the settings. I daren't run it in safe mode - I have no idea what a bit locker is so risk locking myself out of my computer altogether.
