Lightning doesn't work

I configured lightning a while back, and several versions of Thunderbird, but it just hung and I had to en d the process. Since then I've been unable to ever get lightning to load and had to keep it disabled.

What troubleshooting can I perform? It'll be nice to have this feature working but I can't find an FAQ to help fix issues.
