Emails with attachments taking a long time to download and view
Hi,
Over the past few months Thuderbird has been getting slower and slower on IMAP at downloading messages with attachments of any size. For example a client has sent me an email with a 4 MB image attachment so far 5 minutes have passed and the green bar at the bottom is moving very slowly. Then when I try clicking another email with an attachment I can't open that as it's still trying to download the first message. I have a 55 MB broadband connection and I have the latest version of TB 68.1.1.
- I have tried disabling AVG anti virus this doesn't help. - I have tried unchecking the box i Anti-Virus allow anti-virus clients to quarantine.... just the same. - This happens with two different mail servers so it can't be that.
If anyone can help that would be great as it's becoming un-usable.
Regards,
James Isles

I was having all kinds of slowness, and crazy message issues, until I found out how to "Repair" a broken email Inbox ...
After I did this things worked OK for me afterwards. I recommend it as a first step. Let me know what happens ... I hope it helps.
First: Right click on the Inbox folder ...
Select Properties ...
On the little Panel that pops up: Click the Repair button.
(See these screenshots:)

And, If Repairing the Inbox Does Not Help ... try "Rebuilding the Global Database" as per this very useful page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database
"Rebuilding the Global Database re-indexes messages and address book cards. (Newsgroup messages are not indexed.)
Reasons for rebuilding the Global Database include:
The database may have been corrupted. The search index may not be functioning correctly (such as displaying blank results, performing poorly). The database is too big and needs to be reduced in size. Rebuilding the database will not automatically reduce the size of the index. The database will only shrink if there are fewer messages to index since the index was last updated - which can be accomplished by deleting messages, or disabling message sync for an account or folder. The Global Database file becomes fragmented, which reduces index performance. "

Hi,
Fantastic thanks for your help I did both things to be sure and this has sped things up a lot.
James
Matt taught me those tricks about a week ago.
And, Yeah: my problems got fixed up too - it took over an HOUR for TB to re-download all 17000 messages again ... and re-index them.
Shout out to Matt!
So, I share that cure freely now. We BOTH feel much better!!!
What happens if you start Windows in safe mode?
The issue was resolved by the suggestions above so didn't try in safe mode I'm afraid.
