Firefox does not save any of the cites I have visited, and therefore does not suggest cites to visit. I have checked out many other threads with this question but they somehow don't solve my problem. In preferences I have already done/allowed the following: I already have search suggestions on, allow Firefox to save history, and on the "Address Bar" tab I have ticked all of the three boxes.

If it is relevant I have ticked the standard option on content blocking. I understand nothing, it did not use to be like this.

Thank you for your help!

Hello em.molokken,

Would you please make sure that you're not in permanent private browsing mode : Preferences => Privacy & Security => History Choose : "Use custom settings for history" Make sure that "Always use private browsing mode" is unchecked.

See this article and scroll down to where it says :

"Search suggestions are disabled by default in Private Browsing mode. You must explicitly turn them on in a Private Browsing window to enable them in that mode. "

Another thing you could do :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

keyword.enabled and make sure its value is set to true

If you had to change the value, then close and restart Firefox.

Probably a rhetorical question, but in Preferences => Privacy & Security => under "History" => "Firefox will" - is it set to "Remember history" ?

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Hi Mccoy, yes I had all of these as they should be already. Another solution?

And cor-el, I don't even know what this means. What should I do on this Verify identity thing? I can just open it and then I see a bunch of html codes. I don't know what you mean with "In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry." because there comes no error code or nothing when I look at it.

Another useful information for you might be that I have tried to keep the bookmarks toolbar on Firefox shown, but after every time I close Firefox the bookmarks toolbar disappears.

Thanks.
