Master password had been working fine for months now. This week, all of a sudden, Firefox will open and function without asking for my password.

After a few minutes it will ask for the pass.... and then it will repeat every 10-15mins to ask for the password again.

(This is only some sessions. 1 out of 3 maybe. The rest of the time Master Password works properly, just like before.)

If you get that many master password prompts then it is possible that there is a problem with Sync storing its credentials in the Password Manager.

You can try to disconnect and reconnect Sync to see if that has effect.

Are you using Firefox Sync? I've seen this happen when using Firefox Sync and a Master Password because Sync may need access to your passwords. This could be why you are getting that message when you first open Firefox.

However, I can't say I've ever heard of the Master Password appearing more than once (unless you press Cancel or are trying to login to a website) after it asks when you first open Firefox.

Try removing your Master Password and then adding it back again.

Note that the MP isn't meant to be used to block access to Firefox. The MP is only used to unlock the Password Manager and make it possible to access names and passwords. Firefox will prompt for the MP then it needs to access the Password Manager. Using Sync like posted above is a possible cause and other possible cases are having a password stored for a website that you visit. I don't know of extensions that will prompt although Firefox Lockwise will.

So, I understand that MP doesnt block access to Firefox. I am new to using MP, only a few months now. For all this time, when I initially open Firefox, I would instantly get an MP-request. Just one for the whole session.

Now, Ive changed my homepage to a website that requires a password/sign-in. Now when I open Firefox, this page signs-in, allows me navigate around, even into my account, WITHOUT asking for the MP.

Then, to make it worse, after a few minutes, I will FINALLY get an initial request (for that session), and if this happens, I start to get repeated requests every few minutes. I usually close/restart Firefox, MP goes back to "normal".

(I still have to check on my Sync settings. But I havent changed those lately...Ill go check)

So, thanks all. Looks like it was Sync. I had Sync on but only set up on one device! I setup a proper 2-way Sync and it looks good.

I've down this twice now and it still asks for my MP each time I look for a login or password withing minutes of typing it im. I'm about to unistall Firefox and be done with it. This didn't happen until I was mandated to sync.

If you keep tabs open when you close Firefox and use "Restore Previous Session" then the cookies used on those tabs are stored alongside the session data and that would explain that you are still logged in.

That isn't what I'm having an issue with. When I'm asked for my Master Password I give it and that should cover me while I'm working on different websites or that session. However, when I open another page or log onto another website, up comes master password request even if I've already given it on that site during that session.
