I have figured it out!

Thank you for all the responses.

I am using ubuntu 18.04 and was using the snap version of Firefox. I have found that if I used the regular version it worked.

I have the libflashplayer.so in two places: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

I think the second came from flashplayer stuff and the first is for firefox. The snap version has no 'plugins' folder.

Are you having a problem?

Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Flash Player Version: Version 32.0.0.114

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only> +++++++++++++++++++ See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

thank you for the reply. I suspect I wasn't clear. I am using ubuntu 18.04 and not windows. I have the files I need for flash my problem is that one of those files is libflashplayer.so which must be put into the folder that holds plugins for firefox.

I have, for instance: Path: /home/greg/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla/firefox/fgkwrfnj.default/gmp-gmpopenh264/1.7.1 This is the only plugin I have. Its in: home/greg/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla/firefox/fgkwrfnj.default

So, should I put the .so file there too?

Hopefully, somebody will know where that folder is.

Thanks again!

For the user and not global, a simple place to put the libflashplayer.so Plugin is in the manually created plugins folder at ~/.mozilla/plugins

Normally I put the libflashplayer.so extracted from flash_player_npapi_linux.x86_64.tar.gz (downloaded from Adobe) in the created plugins folder at ~/.mozilla/plugins

If Firefox was running when you installed Flash then you can use about:plugins to scan for it and show what version you have and where it is located on system. Otherwise a restart of Firefox would be needed.

The link I posted above also shows locations for Linux (order: Windows, Mac , Linux) that Firefox scan for plugins.

  • Directory pointed to by MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable.
  • Profile directory/plugins, where Profile directory is the directory of the current user profile.
  • ~/.mozilla/plugins.
  • /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (the 64-bit Firefox checks /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins as well).
  • /usr/lib64/firefox/plugins (for 64-bit Firefox)

Thank you for the reply. I am using firefox 64.40.2 Mozilla firefox for snap ubuntu

I read what you sent and nothing covers the snap version. I have search all over the place. "about plugins" says: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.

That's it. I have tried to install flash several different ways without blowing anything up but if I keep it up I am sure something will go haywire. I need it for something at http://192.168.0.54/view2.html which shows me my security cameras. I had it working and then I started to get more requests for flash.

During all this I actually installed flash on my ubuntu system but firefox doesn't recognize that even though ubuntu says its there and running and I can actually goto adobe flash player, click on it, and get the preferences.

Thoughts?

I have now figured out that the pre-installed plugin is at Path: /home/greg/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla/firefox/2y2h61fv.default-1536533617725/gmp-gmpopenh264/1.7.1 This is where the .so file is.

I am told that all plugins are put into the same folder but this one is buried in two separate folders (see above, after the last 'firefox'. This being the case where would I put the libflashplayer.so file?

For the ~/.mozilla/plugins suggestion you need to create the plugins folder yourself.

You can use about:plugins to see where the Flash Plugin Firefox is making use of is located.
