When I create a new email, there is a garbled block of text at the bottom of the page.

I find a few hundred random characters at the bottom of new messages, with my name and my email in plain text. I am using Thunderbird Version 60.2.1 running in Linux Mint 17.3. I sometimes find similar text in received messages.

Sounds like you have added a signature in your account settings and it is not working correctly.
