Configuting Outlook365 from School to Thunderbird running on Linux
I am trying to setup Thudnerbird to retrieve my Outlook365 emails from the University.
The software has been able to validate the servers, IMAP and SMTP, however when testing I receive an error message saying the the "Username or Password is invalid".
I don't know how much this relates but I am afraid the Micorosoft accounts through school use some kind of double authentication or similar.
Any help will be greatly appreciate it.

I was finally able to configure the outlook365 in Thunderbird installed in Linux using the ExQuilla AddOn.
I found the solution in this link https://docs.cs.cf.ac.uk/notes/thunderbird-email-application/

If you have two-step verification on the account, you must create an app password and use that as the 'normal password' in TB.

Sfhowes, thanks for your prompt reply. I have read the link you provided before, that would work if the account is personal. However in this case it is an account given to me by my school, hence when logging into microsoft account it automatically redirects to the the school logging. There is no link to request a two-step verification password.
If there's no two-step verification, you can just use the normal password, but the error may still appear if the server settings are incorrect. What do you have for the incoming and outgoing servers, ports, security, authentication etc.?
When I input my email address, Thunderbird was able to find the servers as recomended by the school it. For both incoming and outgoing server.
The error message us that user name or password is invalid.
Regards
That's fine for the incoming server (on port 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP), SSL/TLS, normal password, User name = email address), but the outgoing server should be smtp.office365.com on port 587, STARTTLS, normal password, User name = email address.
Thanks again for your prompt reply. I checked the servers and the outgoing it is at smtp.office365.com (see picture attached)
I am still getting the message of Username or password Invalid

I'm glad you got it working. It suggests your administrator has not enabled IMAP and SMTP access (stated in the link), requiring the use of ExQuilla. TB does not support the native Exchange protocols (ActiveSync), so that is where the add-on is valuable.
