HELP!!

I have been saving my passwords in firefox for YEARS...I'm talking more than 10 years. Then firefox came out with this "sync" feature...at first, I didn't want to have firefox on my mobile phone as I use safari for everything on my phone. When xmarks announced it was no longer operating it's service for bookmarks, I decided to get a firefox account. So I signed up. I still did not put firefox on my phone. Firefox emailed me a couple times to inform me that if I did not use firefox sync on more than one device it wouldn't save my bookmarks. I ignored this email a couple times and finally last week I had time so I downloaded it onto my phone and signed into my firefox account. NOW, here's what I did not know, that was not pointed out to me very well. The sync for passwords or "logins" is not automatically checked. Tonight, I have gone to access my logins, and have discovered that they are ALL GONE!!!! I went and looked at what was there, and it's only things from the day that I synced with my phone.

PLEASE HELP!!!!! I need my passwords!!!! How can I recover them from my computer??

Hi, please look on your Desktop for a folder called OldFirefoxProfile, if there great. If not please look here :

for a 2nd Profile, if you have 2 Profile folders it will be the oldest dated one. It maybe possible to get something from either place if those are where I have indicated. Let us know if you have them for further help.

Hi there, Been a busy couple weeks so I've only gotten to find this now... But I was able to find info that my passwords are stored in a key4.db file. Which I found. It was created and last modified on the date that I synced the firefox. I also found a key3.db file. Which I can only assume is where all my passwords are stored previously as it's create date is 2012. Now my question is, how do I get firefox to recognize this file or get the info from this file and bring it into the new key4.db file?

  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db

Only work with copies. Insert back in only with Firefox closed.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

If you use the Time Machine or other backup then try to restore file(s) from this backup.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thank you all! I had to downgrade my firefox to 57 and retrieve the login and key files from my time machine backups and was able to get all my passwords. I then checked they were still there with every step, as I logged in to my firefox sync account and as I updated firefox to 61.

Fred McD, you mention a txt file....how do I export the passwords to a txt file? I found a suggested extension but it only works on lower than version 57

Use whatever you have to export your passwords. Then use it to create a backup file.
