Account for @gmail.com can be seen via the web interface by Thunderbird can not connect to it.

Account worked up until May, but we can no longer connect using the original credentials, Change PW and signed in successfully via gmail's web interface, but no luck changing to the same PW in Thunderbird. Removed the account and re-added it. Still no luck. Help.

try resetting your password in option - security - passwords - saved passwords - show passwords and right click on your (pop or) Imap.googlemail.com and change password. Dont forget to do the same to smtp.googlemail.com

Check that you only have one entrence (+ smtp) for that account.
