Thunderbird 38.7.2

When I select : >Tools>Options>Display>Colours and allow "Override the colour specified by the content with my selections above"

I do not see areas of text selected for formatting or copying (i.e they do not get a temporary background colour). By doing some copies it appears they are selected but I don't see what has been selected:

Is this resolvable.
