For the past few days Firefox will not launch after rebooting the PC, having shut down Firefox or after clicking the Restart icon. The process will appear in Task Manager Processes for a few seconds and then disappears.

I've been having to Refresh Firefox after launching while holding Shift. Selecting "Start in Safe Mode" at this point will not work. A pain to have to resort to this so frequently even though I can get my normal configuration back through Sync, as I still have to reconfigure the extensions.

I've found the following in the Event Viewer. The faulting module is in every instance indicated as unknown.

You have an old Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version 41.*

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

Thanks for the reply Fred!

The info at the right is incorrect as to the FF version, if you take a look at the Event Viewer entries you'll see that it's ver. 41.0.1.5750.

Unfortunately same trouble in Safe Mode w/networking, I'd already tried that as well.

Download Firefox Full Version For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

• Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

Thanks Fred, I'll give that a try.

I did discover an entry in the Event Viewer from just before this began indicating a problem with compatibility ... I have FF set to auto-update, I'd guess one must have occurred at that time.

Is it safe to connect to Sync with the new installation or do I need to begin from scratch? I know how to save the bookmarks but not the passwords. I can more easily start over with the extensions.

If you are having problems with Firefox, you should shut down sync. Otherwise the problem could spread to other programs.
