I seem to have changed my "from" name listed in each email to my daughters name and I want to change it back to my name. How do I do this?

My guess is that someone added an Identity with your daughters name and your email address.

Go back into Account Settings and select Manage Identities. Does it show one with daughters name and your address? If so, is it bold like it is set as the Default? Select your name and address as the default and then remove the daughters listing.

Open the Account Settings dialog in Thunderbird from the menu (Tools -> Account Settings). Click on your email address in the tree at the left of the dialog if it isn't already selected. Then change the value in the text field labeled "Your Name" to the display name that you want. Finally, click OK to apply the new setting.

The text field labeled "Your Name" shows my name in it. But the "From" field in my emails still show my daughter's name. This doesn't help me. Any other ideas?

Do you and your daughter share a Profile so that both of you have a mail account (email address) displayed in the left Folder Pane? Please confirm if this is correct.

If yes, is your daughter's mail account the one at the top? If yes, then it is set as default.

Two options: 1. Change the default. Tools > Account Settings select your mail account click on 'Account actions' select 'Set as default' Click on OK

Your mail account should now be listed at the top. When you click on 'Write', the FROM should auto select you.

2. Leave the default alone. click on 'Write' Click on the FROM drop down arrow and select your email address from the options.


Additional: If you have selected a folder which is in your daughters mail account and you click on 'Write', it will auto default to using her FROM email address as you were viewing that mail account.

My daughter does not have an email account and when I checked the account settings, only my email address is listed. When I open it up it shows my name only and is selected as the default.

I would like to try any other suggestions you may have, if you have any.

No, it shows two setting and both with my name and email address.

I went back in and retyped my name over my other name in both of the identities in manage identities, and that seems to have fixed it.
