Hi Everyone, my inbox has suddenly gone from newest first, i.e. at the bottom of the list of the inbox to alphabetical order which is a real pain to have to scroll up and down to find new e.mails. I am ancient and not very computer literate, so any help would really be appreciated.Thank you in advance

You can choose the sort order. There are a couple of ways of doing this. I'll run through the basics so you get a better understanding.

The quick method is to use the column headers. At the top of the list of emails, there will be a row of 'column headers', When you hover over them with the mouse, a tooltip will pop up. From left to right you may see:

  • Thread icon - tooltip : Display message threads'
  • Star icon - tooltip: Sort by star
  • paperclip icon; tooltip: Sort by attachments
  • sunglasses icon: Tooltip: sort by read
  • From: Tooltip: sort by From
  • Subject : Tooltip: sort by Subject
  • Date: Tooltip: sort by Date.

If you click on the 'Date' column header, it will sort by 'Date'. If the oldest date is at the top and you want the newest at the top, so that you do not have to scroll each time, click on the 'Date' column header and it will reverse the order.

You can also set this via the 'Menu Bar' the Menu Bar shows 'File', 'Edit', 'View', etc 'View' > 'Sort by' and choose 'Date', 'Descending' and 'unthreaded'

Or via the 'Mail Toolbar' 'Menu icon' > 'View' > 'Sort by' and choose 'Date', 'Descending' and 'unthreaded'

If you do not see the 'Menu Bar' and would like to see it. click on the 'Menu icon' > 'Options' and select 'Menu Bar'.

Dear Toad-Hall

Thank you so much, what a relief, everything is now back to how it was. I have printed off your instructions in case it happens again.

Again, thank you very much

Geoff.
