I have previously exported my bookmarks in an HTML file. When reinstalling Firefox, I tried to import them using the HTML backup file. It says that 309 bookmarks have been found, but nothing changes on the bookmarks bar, still showing the "Import bookmarks" bookmark. These are very important bookmarks I would really like to get back, can you help me please ?

I was in the middle of asking this question when I fixed (worked around) the problem so I'm posting more as a informative post as there is a lot of old misdirection out there now.

I am(was) unable to drag any URLs from the URI drop down field in the main interface to my bookmarks toolbar. Nor was any drag and drop functionality working in the "Customise Firefox" screen (right click space on url bar -> Customise Toolbar).

I have now found that resetting my zoom setting in preferences to 100% restores this functionality. The problem arose when I was using 120% zoom, NOT text only.

I'm setting up a user on a new computer. I've exported her bookmarks from her old computer. On the new computer I go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks > (select bookmarks toolbar) > Import and Backup > Import bookmarks from HTML. I browse to my folder containing the bookmarks.html file, Open it, and nothing.

I've tried all the suggestions I can find. Places Database Verify Integrity gives me: > Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent etc. Opening the bookmarks.html file shows a list of bookmarks. That file is not empty.

This shouldn't be this hard. How do I accomplish this?

This issue has arisen on Firefox for Linux Mint (my current version is 123.0 (64bit)). I like Firefox, and I like its bookmarks toolbar, and have used it for many years, but there seems to be a new bug introduced today:- The bookmarks toolbar is present and correct when I start Firefox, but now it disappears as soon as I select any bookmark, or if I enter any web address or if I open a new tab. The [View >Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar > Alway Show] option is already selected, but the toolbar is no longer visible. If I click on it again, the bookmarks toolbar reappears (or I can restart Firefox, and this will also restore the toolbar). But the toolbar now disappears as soon as I use the browser in any way, and so is currently not really of practical use, as it needs constant restoring. Hope you can help resolve this. Exported a bookmarks html file from Mac (Sonoma OS) and tried to import it in a computer running Zorin (linux) 17. The file can be found, but when I click it, I am told there are no bookmarks therein. If I open the HTML file it's all there. Full of bookmarks. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for reading.

When opening the following bookmark https://www.youtube.com/@msolrecords I end up with https://www.youtube.com/msolrecords and page not found. If I type the @ it works. I disabled enhanced tracking protection same result add youtube.com to privacy.query_stripping.strip_list same result Your help would be appreciated Regards, Ousmane

As shown in the image the tags field is missing from my bookmarks editor. Any idea how this could happen? Any options or about:config options I should check?

I've attached troubleshooting information. I'm on Arch Linux and I have two other Arch machines on the same Firefox version (Arch Linux Package) that do not exhibit this behavior.

I am trying to put a shortcut to a web site on the Desktop. Using the the padlock on Firefox 109.0(64 bit) puts it in a sticky note on Desktop instead of a shortcut on the Desktop.

I am running running on Fedora 37 KDE where this does not work.

Using Fedora 37 Workstation (GNOME), the shortcut is created and works.

How do I get the shortcut to work on Fedora 37 KDE?

Good morning, Recently I discovered there are two maps called "Andere bladwijzers" in my Firefox browser. I deleted a submap in the second map and noticed this submap had also disappeared in the first map. Is there something I must do or can I leave these two large maps as it is? I have a couple of desktop/laptop devices synced with the same account. When I make a backup/export of my bookmarks in each device (.json/.html files) the checksums of those files don't coincide between devices. Nevertheless, if I open the exported HTMLs in Firefox and save them as Text Files, the resultant files have all the same checksum (sha256sum), i.e., are all the same.

Is this how it is supposed to be? Or should my bookmarks JSON/HTML files be exactly the same in all devices and something is wrong?

Subject line says it mostly. Normally, when you click a bookmark button it replaces the content in current window by default. I am aware I can hold CTRL or SHIFT down to launch a new tab or window respectively. I would however like to be able for certain bookmarks to set the default launch behavior, similar to setting the HTML target=_blank tag on a link. I need certain bookmarks to always launch into new windows (and even nicer would be to launch into a conveniently resized window to left or right of my current window). The idea is that there are frequently times when the content of both windows is needed at same time.

Since recently the bookmark dialog has changed its behaviour, and to worse from my perspective. If I don't do anything for about three seconds, the dialog closes and the bookmark is saved to a place where I most likely don't want it to be saved. Is there a way to get rid of the three second time limit? Thanks!

It's not necessary to read further to answer my question. Bellow I'm going to give some criticism and express frustration about this new feature (or is it a bug?). The criticism is not directed towards the nice people here who give support to users who have problems.

I understand that developers get new ideas and want to put them into practice, but if you change an often used behaviour like this, I don't think it's user friendly to just change the behaviour without asking the user if he want's that behaviour. Personally I don't see how the automatically disappearing dialog helps me (it's very easy to click Esc if I change my mind about bookmarking a page), but I keep experiencing how it makes my browsing experience worse, as I often pause for a moment for example to think what name I'm going to give for the bookmark, or where am I going to place it.

In practice this change has wasted at least an hour of my time (to find an explanation and (in vain) a solution to fix the behaviour), made me annoyed, and based on the comments here and other places, made quite a few other people annoyed too.

Please, when you change the behaviour of Firefox in the future, before changing the behaviour for an individual user, ask him first if he even wants the change. For example show him a dialog where he is told that "we have this new feature where your familiar dialog keeps disappearing every three seconds for no reason so that you get the pleasure of invoking it again...and again...and again. If you want to have that feature, check the box on the left".

An automatic update of Firefox which resulted in a "quit/create new profile" choice has removed all my bookmarks

Of the four profiles stored in "about:profile" three are identical (ie. have only the default bookmarks stored) and one, generates a "quit/create new profile" message.

The "bookmarksbackup" folder (in /home/user/.Mozilla/Firefox/zs1jki8t.default) is empty.

The "import/backup" option (in Manage Bookmarks) offers nothing to choose. There is no 'list of dated automatic backups.'

Firefox did not create an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

Browser privacy "strict". "Never remember history" was selected.

I was using Firefox on windows 10 laptop, everything was synced with my account. Now after switching to Ubuntu I can't see my bookmarks, Just an empty toolbar. Now I don't have access to my old laptop, I sold it.

Any help?
