I cannot disable the ask.com search utility in Firefox.
I have tried everything I have read in solving this problem EXCEPT mess with the registry, which I am NOT willing to do.
Right now I am using Google Chrome to access this site since I am annoyed at how ask.com messes with Firefox.
I updated Firefox to 3.6.13 (if I'm correct), and it installed with it, WITHOUT ANY OPTION NOT TO, the Ask.com toolbar. I followed instructions on how to uninstall the toolbar, but still, when I perform an address bar search, AND EVEN A GOOGLE SEARCH, I get redirected to an ask.com search.
I have tried tweaking Firefox through about:config, and it works UNTIL I RESTART FIREFOX. When I reopen Firefox, the search, again, goes to ask.com. This has happened even if I already reset all settings in about:config referencing an ask.com search. Once I close the window and reopen Firefox and perform a search, it is still ask.com doing it, both from the address bar and any search I make.
I have already uninstalled Firefox on this desktop PC.
