Can receive but not reply or type new messages after yesterday's update (Thunderbird 60 Beta 11 20180903185417). Any suggestions please?

When I hit reply, the window goes white, the sender's name, subject line and email content disappears, and a blue circle spins with the message at top "Not Responding." This also happens when I try to write a new email. I can receive emails fine.

I've closed Thunderbird and restarted several times. This started after an update auto installed yesterday, but I don't know how to uninstall just that update.

Hi again, you rock! Thank you SO much for your help (and apologize for the delay in responding). Wanted to send you a note first and then will mark this as very helpful and solved. The link to the previous version worked perfectly and I have changed my settings. Again, so appreciate your time and generosity.
