I am trying to start ancestry online research, but I cannot download the website above. I am a true computer "user" and not very technically oriented. I do research and writing with the computer as my updated typewriter.

I haven't used that site. How is it making data available to you? For example, is it displaying data on a page, or creating a PDF that displays in a tab, or ?? In some cases, you can select and copy, then paste into a program that understands HTML (such as Microsoft Word) and you'll get a reasonable facsimile of the content to work with. But there may be better ways to do it depending on how it is presented.

Is there a page you can link to which shows what you want to save that doesn't require someone to have a login to view it? Which is a long way of saying, can you give us a direct link to see what you're setting, and let us know what part you want to save?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button# or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
