Your Kubuntu and Windows Firefox are both outdated.
Please update to current safe, secure and supported versions. See
Please post back once you have updated Firefox.
only latest version I can find is the ff28 in deb format, so how do I update with a .deb firefox?
Ray
If you use a Firefox version from the repositories then you can only update via the software update of your Linux distribution.
First verify that you meet the System Requirements (GTK+ 3.4 and GLib) for the current Firefox release.
Yes you will need GTK 3.4 (three.four) at minimum to run Firefox 46.0 and newer. This also means you need a GTK3 theme or Firefox will look unthemed with missing scroll arrows on scrollbars if a GTK2 theme is in use.

It is GTK3 as the version needs to be 3.4 at minimum or preferably newer as fairly recent Linux distros versions have say 3.16 or newer.
James,
I don't understand how to run GTK3, so how would I install ,it?
