Yesterday, I updated my firefox application. Now, when I close my browser by clicking on the "red" close window button in the upper left of the tab menu, the preference panel remains open. I can't seem to get it to stay hidden.

That opens as a separate window. It needs to be closed as well. Try closing Firefox via; Menu > File > Exit.

You can check the home page setting to see if the about:preferences page is appended (|about:preferences#general).

Note that this can happen if you click "Use Current Page(s)" to set the home page. You can pin the tab with the about:preferences page to prevent including about:preferences to the home page setting if you want to use this button. To set a single page as the home page you can drag the globe/padlock to the toolbar Home button.

You can check the home page setting

  • Firefox > Preferences > General > Startup: Home page

Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
