I wrote this issue:Chromium Issue 503420 and it seems to affect Thunderbird only.
This issue for Chromium and they've been searching trying for an answer. No joy so far.I I use a script for Chromium book mark to send a link and when it runs Thunderbird opens with To: ///<> in the To field. Don't know where it came from or if it matters. Does not happen in other mail clients Only Thunderbird. Thanks for looking.

I am sorry. but without information on what your issue is it is hard to guess what is happening. Is your script using mailto links or something else?

Thanks Matt I use this script in Chromium browser to send a link.
When my mail client Thunderbird opens it opens as shown in attached with suspicious characters in the To: ///<> a screenshot is attached. Don't know if it matters or not; or how it came to be. Malicious?
javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+document.title+'&BODY='+escape(location.href);
I am no java programmer, but ever sample I have looked as contains a to address as a part of the mailto:
however I did try pasting your code into scratchpad in Firefox and executing it. I got a simple blank to no /// That is on Windows 7 and Firefox Firefox and Thunderbird daily. I do not have Firefox release (whatever version it is this week) installed to test on it.
Thanks again Matt
I'm no script writer either. Just used this when a forum came up with it compls about no send to Link in Chromium.
Apologies; I failed to mention I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 Chromium Version 44.0.2403.89 Ubuntu 15.10 (64-bit)When using Firefox it doesn't happen; only when Thunderbird is the default mail client. What's puzzling is that it has operated as expected for several years through lots of updates of both Ubuntu and Chromium and now,,,,,,?
Hello Matt Problem is solved by a forunate OS failure.
Had to reinstall My Ubuntu ( does not happen often). When I signed in to Chromium the bookmarks restored.
One of which was sendlink with the code i had posted to the made up link.
Now It works as advertised. I still don't know what was going on; but it goes on, no more. So I'm out of your hair and thanks very much.
David. This is a feature that I think a lot of folks would like to see included in Chromium. See lots of inquiries along this line.
