Two days ago CNN video stopped working. All I see is a dark black screen. I can go to You Tube and do not have a problem. I have a Dell XPS 420 running Vista Ultimate, Comcast internet service with my own router and modem, and Firefox version 37.0.1 Adobe Flash is 17.0.0.134

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

I checked as you requested. Hardware acceleration was already disabled.

HI tohagan4, Since we are talking about Firefox for Desktop, I am going to change the topic to that product. (Please correct me if I am wrong here.)

A black video screen sounds like a graphics rendering issue if Flash is not blocked for the website.

The other option to try it is to disable OMTC temporarily even though this has not been an issue since 33: http://mzl.la/1ApHG4N

Were there any improvements?

I have tried the above without success. I run a part time small business and do not have the time to continue to fight with Firefox as I have over the last 6 or 7 months with one problem after another. This one is the first I have not been able to fix. But the time is killing me. I have been with Firefox since the beginning and I have loved it until recently. I have switched to Chrome as of last night and unless I start hitting problems there or hear that Firefox has settled down and gotten stable again I guess I have lost a good friend.
