When I open my school's blackboard -> course materials, it automatically tries to open or save the top document on the list. Can I stop the suggestion?

I have already read the file and I have saved it as well. I don't want to deselect the suggestion every time I open my Course Materials. Is there any other option?

The image shows my course materials list. The top file that is always suggested is syl16. I just don't want any suggestions. Thanks.

Do you mean that Firefox immediately displays the download dialog (Open, Save, Cancel) when you open that page?

If so, is there anything special about the link you're using to open the page that might cause the page to trigger the download? Is there any other way to get to the list?

Yes. When I open the page it automatically tries to open/save the top document. It does this in IE as well. I suppose it could be a page specific thing. I'll look into opening the page from a different direction.

I don't see any other way of getting to the location. I've contacted my web site tech support to see if they can shut it off. Until then I've defaulted the option to save so I don't have to deal with seeing it pop up on the middle of my screen.

If you know of any other methods I can try I would appreciate it. Thanks.

It really depends on why it's happening. Firefox and IE have a feature called "prefetch" that checks for links the page has marked for prefetching. The idea is you can move to the next web page more quickly; it shouldn't be used for other kinds of content. To see if prefetch is the problem, try disabling that feature to see whether it makes any difference:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste fetch and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the network.prefetch-next preference to switch the value from true to false

Any improvement?

This article shows the checkbox for the similar setting in IE11 (way down the page...): https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/ie/2013/12/04/getting-to-the-content-you-want-faster-in-ie11/

Tried that and it didn't change the issue. Thanks for the suggestion.
