Every since the last upgrade (Aug 14th I think), Thunderbird tends to freeze at times & I have to exit & restart Thunderbird. I believe this is the version that said something about incorporating the calendar but as far as I know, I did not enable it as the message at the bottom indicates that I need to enable it, yet I've found that the calendar is already there. I like the idea of the calendar but if it screws up the email program, forget it. Can I downgrade to the last version?? It use to load fast & work smoothly. Windows 7.1

First, make sure you are on Thunderbird 38.2.0

Please start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode - win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 - XP http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx

Start Thunderbird. If the problem is still there, then still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode per http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Does problem go away? Please reply to let us know results.

I cannot simulate the problem by starting the computer. I've noticed that it tends to freeze if the computer has been "asleep". It apparently has to be asleep for some time before it does it as I can tell it to "sleep" and then bring it out of it's sleep and still works ok but if it "sleeps" over nite, that's when it seems it freezes. When I wake the computer and tell it to "get messages", it acts like it starts to download and the little window pops up in the lower right hand corner that usually lists the new emails. That window is blank and that's when it locks up. I noticed this morning that when it froze and I closed thunderbird and restarted it, it opened but still acted like it was froze (could highlight any folders or anything else) I noticed that the little box that pops up in the lower right hand corner was still there. So I closed Thunderbird again and restarted and that time it worked ok and still is 4 hours later (and the computer had been asleep. I'm not sure how a person can effectively troubleshoot something as intermittent as that. Is there a way to back out of the upgrade and go to the last version and then see if the problem goes away?

I've noticed also that another symptom after the upgrade is that it takes a lot longer for Thunderbird to start, It was usually pretty fast.

This should be solved in version 38.3.0.

Do you find it to be solved?

I checked and the new version is installed. I had gotten in a habit of shutting down computer instead of letting it go to sleep if I'm going to be away for a longer time. I haven't seen the problem from a fresh start up. I will start letting it go to sleep for longer period instead of shutting down, especially overnite, to see if the problem has hopefully gone away. Thanks for your response.
