Why do none of the usual commands like cmd +open and cmd + , not work on OS10.9.5?
I have used Firefox for years without problem.
Now I have "upgraded" to Mavericks I have had endless problems with Firefox:
Memory leakage with Flash resulting in sluggish browser performance. None of the usual commands like cmd +open and cmd + , and cmd + v etc work with OS10.9.5 Missing graphics icons on some webpages etc etc
I have done all the usual resets and today even completely uninstalled all files assoc with Firefox and redownloaded - no improvement.
Looks like it might be time to move on to Chrome unless anyone can explain why this browser is behaving like it was coded in 1998?

there is a preference to return to the old style dialog:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste pref and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.preferences.inContent preference to switch it from true to false
Missing icons are usually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you might see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters instead. If you have a font installed that covers this Unicode range then you may see a real (CJK) character and not the little box with the CSS code.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
- Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).
Thanks for the replies.
I think the icon issue is resolved, obviously it doesnt do it on all websites. . The opening new windows/tabs is resolved - thanks.
I now have racing fans on my Macbook using Firefox today? I am not doing anything different than normal. It's a Flash issue according to the Activity Monitor.
Apple Level 2 got rid of lots of files and that got Safari behaving properly as it too had problems handling Flash. Now it's fine, it's just when I also open Firefox and use Facebook like I always do and watch a video etc on there at the same time as Safari is open (as usual) the fans kick in (90% CPU) despite plenty of memory. Firefox has resolved to 40% but the fans are still going although at less revs than they were 10 mins ago?
Never had a problem running Safari on one desktop and Firefox on another. I have the latest Flash and browsers.
Cheers in advance if anyone knows what the problem is.
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
- make sure you have the latest Flash version:
http://www.adobe.com/special/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html - disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
- disable hardware acceleration in Firefox
