Mozilla apparenlty still 'sneaks in' a blanco check with adding their own web addresses to permitted exceptions in security settings (addon.mozilla.org / marketplace.firefox.com). I understand the purpose that this might be required to execute certain functions. However, I rather decide myself and enable them manually when I need that function. Removing them manually only last for one session and the exceptions quickly return after restarting the browers.

>> I assume the only way to remove them is changing into the about:config settings?

In addition, pre-installed addons like H264 and Primtime can only be either activated or disabled.. there is no option to be prompted for activation like other add-ons offer.

>> Any suggestions how to make them prompt you once needed?

Hello!

Is there any specific reason why you want to remove those exclusions? I am assuming it might be a security/privacy concern which I could understand. If you remove it, it makes things difficult for yourself I strongly suggest leaving them alone.

Both are Mozilla sites. One is for add-ons, the other is for apps. Both are secure.

Hi Micro... yes you guessed right..

I don't want to make this a philosophical debate but let me ask you two questions..

Why should people use a firewall or antivirus product? If you have an answer for this, you can derive the answer to your own question from that.

Also, why is it necessary to force this?

Yes, it might make some things more complicated but that is just because the product was developed without certain aspects of the customer in mind and making it simple.

We all can find lots of products that force customer into a particular direction or use of a product. Some products can even not be removed from your device or OS. There might be people who do not care and that is perfectly fine.. but I do, hence my questions.

Unfortunately, there are still too many people whose main focus is on convenience rather than security or data privacy while on the Internet and some companies unfortunately nurture that behavior sometimes for exploitation sometime just out of negligence. I prefer to go the extra mile, but I understand that this does not apply to everyone.

thx

Hi Fred, yes, everything is secure.. :)

Thank your for the link.. I figured they are genuine and coming from Mozilla.. Still, I rather prefer to make my own choices.. Given that Firefox is offering quite decent choices across other configuration parameters.. I see no obvious reason why this setting and the add-ons must be forced.

I haven't tested what happens if I delete those sites, but the specific permission set by that list under Options > Security > Exceptions is permission to install add-ons. This bypasses the first prompt you see when a site wants to install an add-on (site doesn't have permission, do you want to allow) and moves to the second prompt automatically (do you want to install this particular add-on). As far as I know, that is the extent of it.
