Hi,

I am using Thunderbird 128.10.2esr (64-bit).

In settings, composition I have the "use paragraph format" box unchecked.

When I compose an email, hitting Enter causes an extra line feed to be inserted. Thus I need to go back over lists, addresses and so forth to manually change back to body text. I would like to not have to do this.

Is there another setting that will allow composition entirely in body text style? I am also set to send in plain text only.

I have Comcast as my internet service provider. I use Thunderbird to download a copy of my e-mails from their server and send e-mails out through their server. Until about a month ago, Thunderbird, which I used for many years will not send my e-mails but will still allow me to receive my e-mails. When I try to send an e-mail, I get an error message that says Login to server smtp.comcast.net with username (then my e-mail address).net failed. I had read on Google that Thunderbird was having some trouble and one of the fixes was to uninstall Thunderbird and reinstall it. Also, to check my settings on my computer which I did and nothing has worked. When The message doesn't go through, after this failure message, I then get this message "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'. I tried changing my password and it did not help. I also contacted the Comcast security team which was able to help me with a previous Thunderbird issue but not this one. They said the problem was with Thunderbird this time. Can anybody assist me with this please?

I dual boot two Linux OSes (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, Pop!OS). They both share the same ~/.mozilla/firefox and ~/.thunderbird directories. In Pop, clicking a link in a message opens up a new tab in Firefox. Then I boot Tumbleweed, where the same versions (128 esr, 138.0 release channel) of both clients are installed. Now if I click the "get help" F1 or any https link in TB, a new window opens with "target=_top" rather than "target=_blank". So basically have to copy/paste links into a new tab manually, *but* only in the Tumbleweed instance.

I installed Chromium and set it as default browser. Guess what? Works just great! I guess I could just live with that configuration, only I'd like Firefox to be my default browser. What could I do? I tried all the steps in [guide] and would appreciate ideas or guidance from this forum.

Thanks! Alex

I recently converted from Outlook to Thunderbird and use a Local Folder to maintain most of my emails. Everything seemed to run well for the first few days, but then I realized most emails being automatically copied by filters are showing up 2 blank messages (same subject/date/time/etc.). I get the occasional 12/31/1969 email as well. Oddly, when I run the filters manually, the process works flawlessly and have never resulted in duplicated blank messages or a 1969 email.

Any opinions on why an automatically-ran filter corrupts most emails but manual runs are fine? The behavior is bad enough I'm considering switching back to Outlook. This is such a basic function it causes me doubt in Thunderbird's ability to safely manage my emails.

Notes: - Using Proton Mail Bridge - Latest Thunderbird/latest Proton Mail Bridge with no add-ons or extensions - Repairing or compacting the associated Local Folder doesn't fix any message. The only 'fix' is to manually re-copy the affected message from my server, then delete the corrupt copies. - The filters are set to run with new email - Each filter copies the message to the Local Folder, then moves the message to the server's Trash. This two-step action is because Proton Mail Bridge does not allow third-party clients to move messages out of the server--if you do this, it orphans the email in their All Mail folder and become a mess to clean up. - After extensive research, I thought my folders were corrupt so I completely rebuilt the Local Folder structure. All messages were moved into new folders and the original folders were deleted. - Each folder is a few hundred MB, total Local Folder size is less than 7GB

Problem: I want to forward a received email to a list I have made. The list is located in my address book. First I click "forward" on the email in question, which is now waiting for addresses. Then I highlight each entry in the list I want to forward the email to. When I click "write", however, a new email appears and the email I want to forward is not included. Perhaps I should create an email containing the list first and then try to attach the email I want to forward, but that isn't obvious to me. It seems to me that in the past I could mark an email to be forwarded, then go to the address book, right click on the title of the list and then click "BCC". But this option seems to be missing. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Jack

Most attachments come through as application/octet-stream which I should be perfectly able to view via "gnome-text-editor" or "gedit" etc. I want to be given the option to use one of these.

I don't see any mechanism in the menus to allow this, though. The "application/octet-stream" is conspicuously absent from the content-type list, which is absurd since that's what 99% of all attachments are recognized as.

Note that I want this as an *OPTION* to going through the steps of downloading and then viewing the file.

When I receive an e-mail that has a JPEG attachment (Windows 10 Professional 64-bit), Thunderbird opens the JPEG image with Microsoft Photo Viewer. When the image opens, I cannot rotate the image. If I save the image and then open that saved image via the same Microsoft application, the rotate icon in the upper left is operative. Is this due to the permissions in the image being opened by Thunderbird from alt/local/temp? Thanks.

Sometimes I'll get an email that will not open to read. And it is at random doing this.

What I see is this. In Outlook it is shown but will not open. While I get the same email in "gmail", it will open. If I open it in gmail and go back to outlook, it is now open. If I open another email in outlook and then go back to the one that does not open. It will not open again.

Does not make sense, does anyone have a "fix" for this problem? Thanks ahead for any suggestions or solutions.

Shortly after my Win10 x64 ver 22H2 update on tuesday 5/13, my Tbird fails to save any sent message with an attachment to the local sent folder. It is sent correctly and saved with attachment in the IMAP server's sent folder. The same message sent with no attachment will correctly be saved to the local sent folder as it should. In both cases the message "saving to sent folder" is displayed. The TB version was just updated to 128.10.2esr (64-bit) and issue continued as before. PC restarts make no difference. SFC system scan finds no issues. Had no issues with this PC & TB over last 5 years until now. Issue is annoying, since I frequently use the local sent folder to forward messages to additional recepients.

Hi I have been used to Thunderbird responding to my beginning to type recipient names with a list of matches. Suddenly it has stopped doing so. I have checked that all my addresses are still present in the Address Book (relief!), but I note that the Contacts sidebar is completely empty (even the Address Book options are missing). I can't find a setting to correct this, and would be very grateful to know how to revert to the previous good performance. Thanks
