Hi Guys, I wonder if you can help . I have had Monzilla Thunderbird App for some while , primarily used for email, and access to my email account with Microsoft and has always been a bit of a pain to say the least. That I fear is because it was never set up properly by myself in the first place.

However, at the moment I can't receive any email from my PC ......."bards@btconnect.com " unless I sign in via a webpage. However, access via my smartphone using supplied Outlook email app, no problem.

So I am hopeful that you guys can help me sort out my PC access once and for all.

The current problem has arisen after receiving a forced donation / subscription page from Mozilla having made my donation I still do not have access to my email and folders.

Brief history: i. Originally PC access to account via Monzilla working fine, (donations made at intervals to Monzilla). ii. Microsoft then changed security systems and servers and with current setup at the time I couldn't get access to email incoming or outgoing ( problem with Imap / PoP3 servers). iii. Fix provided by Monzilla with new account denoted as .... bards@btconnect.com (OWL) whatever OWL stands for I do not know, (annual subscription required). iv. Even with the use of this get around , I still had problems sending mail this I believe was a problem down to default passwords and old server settings. (confliction between default settings and original account settings and use of OWL ? ). v. As mentioned above the current problem has arisen after receiving a forced donation / subscription page from Mozilla having made my donation I still do not have access to my email. problem with server settings again. Don't know what's going on ? and I am thoroughly confused and would appreciate some help getting things back on track. Global indexing makes Thunderbird very unresponsive after update to v128

Thunderbird automatically updated to v128 earlier this week after I went to Help - About Thunderbird to check that it had updated to v115.14.

Everything seemed okay immediately after the update, but when I started Thunderbird the next day it was very unresponsive. Checking the Activity Manager showed that Thunderbird was indexing messages, but that this was happening very slowly. I let Thunderbird do its thing that day in the hope that things would settle down.

The next day when I started Thunderbird things were still bad. I tried Rebuilding the Global Database but when I restarted Thunderbird it was just as bad, if not worse.

I then turned off indexing in the Thunderbird settings and Thunderbird is now responsive and back to normal.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this? Any suggestions to fix the problem?

I am a long time Thunderbird user so my profile is very large with a lot of accounts, and has been through a lot of Thunderbird versions, so it is potentially more complicated than normal.

Thunderbird version is currently 128.1.0esr (32-bit).

Since 8/31/24 I have been getting messages on all devices when I attempt to open my email account saying "Correct credentials needed. Enter credentials for islandlar@hawaii.rr.com." However, my password is not accepted and no option is provided for "forgot password." Any guidance around this dilemma would be appreciated.

the only way i found out is to query windows registry: reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox" /s | findstr /I main reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird" /s | findstr /I main

The goal is: backup firefox and thunderbird profiles via script/batch and read the version for a later restore.

In a former version of Thunderbird, selecting the "Quick Filter" button would cause an extra bar below the search filter to appear with various different icons you could press to filter messages by whether they had an attachment, whether they were starred, etc.

Now, it seems the default is instead to hide all of these options a bit inconveniently in a small "settings"-like button dropdown, with only words rather than helpful icons. To boot, this button is strangely aligned to the topleft, giving it very irregular padding that makes it feel a bit janky.

How can I get back the original behavior? It felt far more intuitive and required much less precise clicking.

I would very much like Thunderbird to be my main email program on my MacBook Pro. However, Thunderbird feels very slow compared to Apple Mail or MailMate.

Installed software:

  • Thunderbird 128.1.1esr (64-bit)
  • macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93)

Some examples of slow:

  • when using keyboard `down` key to go over each message in a folder, displaying the selected email can't keep up with me going over the list.
  • when using the mouse, sometimes selecting an email message (left-click and hold) is processed fractions of a second later. I have to wait for the visual rendering of the selected image before moving my mouse to drop the message somewhere else.

Is there a development track to improve the speed of Thunderbird (on macOS)?

All old e-mails in inbox was missed from outlook, winmail and especially yahoo mail sever, It happens when I open Thunderbird post client. Firs, I could see all emails, but next time I open Thunerbird for check e-mails the old mails in inbox of Yahoo was disappeared. I worried about Thunderbird had access to my yahoo account and cleaned all my old emails in inbox there. Possible, I click "yes" some question in Thunderbird mail client during receiving e-mails, when I must not to do. How to stop a frozen email search?

As mentioned in a previous note, searches in my inbox freeze for 10 minutes after TB upgraded to esr. All work on email also stops. At least I want to cancel the search, but I can't find any shortcut. All I can do is close TB through the task manager and lose any unsaved emails. Is there a way to interrupt a frozen search?

Hello, I use TB intensely, and I have donated for its use. A week ago it automatically upgraded to esr, and since then, my search function has been essentially disabled. When I search the inbox or the all files, the program freezes for 10 minutes after I enter the first letter. It works fine when I search the sent messages. The software seems to prioritize message downloads and may be searching my google mail server rather than the downloaded messages. I tried without internet, and the delay is the same. I have windows 10. My husband's laptop remained in version 115, and it works fine. Please fix this bug urgently. I would greatly appreciate your help.
