Every time I shut down my Windows 11 PC (25H2, x86-64), it gets stuck and states "This app is preventing shutdown", listing Thunderbird as the application that is the cause for the hold. If I don't react to this and force close Thunderbird at this point, my PC does not shut down. (Annoying if I hit "shut down" and walk away expecting the shutdown to complete.)

If I close Thunderbird before shutting down, Windows proceeds correctly.

How can I diagnose why Thunderbird seems to hold Windows active?

Hi all,

I've been using Thunderbird for eons but yesterday morning it started freezing up constantly.

It freezes up ("Thunderbird is not responding") every time new emails are received or any time I take any action while the Inbox folder is open. So, if I delete an email it freezes for a few minutes. If I do anything pretty much, it freezes up for a few minutes. Then it comes back and I can do another action, and it freezes again. This only seems to be happening when I have the Inbox open - if I go to other folders it seems to function normally.

Things I've tried without success: - Troubleshooting mode - Adding exceptions for my profile folders to Windows Defender - Compressing Inbox (and Trash and Junk) - Repairing the Inbox index

This doesn't appear to be a memory issue - right now, memory use for my entire system seems to be hovering at just over 50%. But Thunderbird is still freezing.

My Inbox folder is very large, but it's never been an issue before and nothing significant was added yesterday when it started failing.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks

I have several Windows 7 computers running Thunderbird and have 13 POP3 accounts to retrieve. These computers work fine. It takes about 5 seconds to check all 13 accounts if there is nothing new to download. I have two Windows 11 computers that take about 50 seconds to go through these same accounts under the same conditions (nothing new to download). I have done a lot of searching for answers, but nothing helpful has come up. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Seems like it would be a common problem as both Windows 11 computers do the same thing. Both are Windows 11 Pro. Thanks for any guidance.

Once I delete a message, T-bird (147.0.4 on W11 Pro) begins compacting, and then I'm stuck until it's done. This is new behavior. Previously the system compacted occasionally, but now it's every single time I delete something from the inbox (which happens frequently during the day, of course, sigh).

Anyway, many thanks in advance for help/guidance and if it matters, I'm one of those who contributes monetarily for use versus freeloading. Also, no, we don't believe updating to the latest version is productive for our situation so I hope this is not the solutuion. -- Regards,

I have used Thunderbird for many years and and have loved it. However, recently my "Local Folders Inbox" have been extremely slow (deleting emails, reviewing an email, etc.). I have tried every suggestion that I have found without any change: reducing emails in the folder (down to about 75 remaining), compacting and repairing the folder, deleting and rebuilding all of the msf files and global database, disabling all addons, empty trash and junk, clear the cache, disable hardware acceleration, exclusion in antivirus, etc. It has become very frustrating. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
