I've been using Thunderbird to access my Comcast email for two years now, without problems. Except yesterday & today, when I've been unable to send or receive emails, for no apparent reason. Yet, when I connect to my Comcast/Xfinity email via the Comcast browser website, sending and receiving of email works fine. This access problem began yesterday, 10/14/2025.

Same email address I've been using for about 20 years now, and same password. I made no changes to my Thunderbird or Comcast settings. Sending a test email to myself via the Comcast email website works fine. Clicking on the "Get Messages" icon in Thunderbird results in no action whatsoever. Sending a test message to myself in Thunderbird results in about a 40 second delay (usually it's 10 seconds), and then the error message "Login to server smtp.comcast.net with username don-peters@comcast.net failed." It then asks if I want to try again, but if I agree, the same error results. But there is also the option of "Enter new password". Click on that and the same error results, without even asking for a new password. But my password is OK, as evidenced by my Thunderbird settings and being able to log into Comcast browser email.

Yes, I've spent hours on the phone with Comcast on this issue, but they were of no help. One agent claimed that the issue was with Thunderbird, not Comcast, as its webmail worked fine. Two years ago, I had a similar problem I spent hours trying to solve. It turned out the problem then was due to Microsoft Outlook on my PC regularly trying to log into Comcast to ALSO download my email - BUT using the wrong password. Comcast interpreted these multiple failed login attempts as scammer attempts, and blocked ALL email logins from my PC. I fixed the problem by shutting down Outlook. But when I just spoke to Comcast they said the current problem was NOT due to my account getting blocked by them. But they couldn't give a reason for the blockage.

So, I now believe the problem lies with BOTH Thunderbird and Comcast. First of all, Comcast is somehow blocking my Thunderbird access attempts. But Thunderbird is also at fault for not reporting a SPECIFIC email login problem, so that we can address it - and fix it. If Thunderbird can be more specific as to why login attempts are failing, I can get back to them with the evidence - and hopefully solve the problem.

I've been using Thunderbird for about 30 years now, and I hate to give it up. But if this continues, I'll be forced to abandon Thunderbird.

I have tried using the troubleshooting guide suggestions without success. The email is not on the server as verified by webmail, but still resides in my local inbox. Can I manually access the database offline and delete this email? I have two other gmail accounts that are part of my Thunderbird email client version 140.5.0esr (32-bit).

Installed on android phone, imported account configurations using the the bar code method. Gmail accounts all good, but Microsoft accounts all fail. Multiple reinstallations have the same outcome.

The failure occurs at Passkey generation all with the same message "We're unable to complete your request server_error: The contextID supplied in the request did not have a matching cookie" or "Something went wrong trying to create a passkey. Please try again." It uses Brave Browser when doing this.

Any ideas on how to progress?

Thanks

All, recently set up email accounts and all was well. Used TB years ago & liked it for its ease. Now my signature is not working (set up with 'attach signature from a file instead' option FYI). Tried everything I can think of, disable add ons in troubleshoot mode etc. deleing & re-adding it. No new add ons have been added before this happened, they were added prior to setting up signature. And worked fine initially. Thoughts and please keep it simple for someone very old lol - pic attached for help perhaps?

TIA and appreciated

I have several accounts with GMX. Two work, and the other two display the above error message. Everything works when I log in via a browser, but not in Thunderbird. The account settings are identical for all four accounts except for the password and username.

What can I do?

I used to be able to access filters and set them up, but now I can't even find where they're located to set a new one. I've been through every possible setting, and still can't find the filters. Where are they? They've obviously been moved to somewhere obscure since I last used them (many versions ago, and they still run, I just can't locate them).

Thanks in advance.

Request for Step-by-Step Instructions: Junk/Spam Folder Missing for One Account Only

Hello,

I need assistance with a very specific Thunderbird issue.

I use Thunderbird with multiple email accounts. Every one of them has a functioning Junk/Spam folder except for one: my Google Workspace account max@dantanas.com

. This is the only account where Thunderbird refuses to create or recognize a Junk/Spam folder, and the option to assign one is disabled.

I am not looking for general explanations about IMAP, Gmail, filters, server policies, or Thunderbird’s junk logic. I need a concrete, step-by-step procedure that results in:

A visible, usable Junk/Spam folder for max@dantanas.com

inside Thunderbird.

Thunderbird recognizing that folder as the Junk folder.

The Junk settings becoming available so the account can move spam to that folder like all my other accounts do.

To be clear:

All my other accounts in Thunderbird already have functional Junk/Spam folders.

The problem is isolated to this one account.

I need an exact sequence of steps that I can follow to fix it, not abstract descriptions or background information.

Please provide a direct, step-by-step set of actions that will enable Thunderbird to create or use a Junk/Spam folder for this account.

Thank you, Max Makowski max@cape-co.co max@luck.fish

Hello community!

I use Thunderbird desktop for two emails: personal outlook.com (ms365 or whatever ma calls it) and school exchange account.

Exchange works fine using owl and is able to sync calendar correctly. For personal email, it appears I can only connect via imap instead of MS’s protocol, which limits its ability to sync calendar. I’m wondering if there’s a way to login personal ms email similar to exchange to sync calendar etc.?

Thx in advance for ur help :-)

Have used the SeaMonkey suite for my email since Netscape. It seems the latest version SeaMonkey will not work with Apple’s latest OS on my MacBook Air, and is unlikely to be modified to work. So, my plan was to use Thunderbird, but when I Google to see if it (Thunderbird) is compatible I get an AI generated message that the Thunderbird team is working on a new Apple compliant version. Searching this forum I can find no reference to any Apple compatible version. Anyone with updates on Thunderbird versions that will work on my MacBook Air and the macOS Tahoe Currently happy enough with macOS Sonoma and SeaMonkey, but the nags to upgrade are annoying Thank you for your time Cheers Ralph
