I am running Thunderbird ESR 128 as a snap on Ubuntu 24.04. I have several different email accounts and until a couple of days ago, when I replied to an email on account 2 or 3 it was sent as from that particular account. Now it is being sent as if from account 1. Trying to send an email as if from account 2 or 3 results in a failed-to- send message. I have noticed that when I look at the from field for accounts nos 2 and three the following is being inserted before the normal email address "NSIMsgidentity: 1d6 (or 1d7). Can anyone please advise me why this is happening and how to recover the ability to reply / send an email from accounts 2 an 3 as if from those accounts rather than from account 1? Thanks in advance

A week or two ago I started having two problems with Thunderbird, but only with some emails related to my clients. Here is a description of each problem (in case the problems are related):

Doubled incoming emails

Emails received at my address david@nsrusa.org are being received and displayed twice. I have set both my email domain servers to delete messages from the server, which is the top advice always given for this problem. The advice doesn't work for me.

Outgoing message failure

Some messages I send using Reply (perhaps the doubled messages) are getting "stuck" in my email server, which keeps sending me updates on this failure. Here is the start of a typical failure message:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its recipients after more than 48 hours on the queue on server.springtimesoftware.com.

My environment: Mailservers are mail.nsrusa.org and mail.springtimesoftware.com, both at IP address 69.48.183.241, Windows 11 Home 64, Thunderbird 128.8.1esr 32 (I have just updated to 128.11.1esr), hp laptop.

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** (removed)@hotmail.com ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .


I have not made any changes, and it worked previously for years - do you have any suggestions as to the problem? I have tried sending to 3 Hotmail accounts and are all being returned - all other emails work correctly.

I am using plusnet.

Re: 128.11.1 esr (32-bit) Curiously, without settings having been changed and only since last 2-3 updates, my unified inbox listing comcast.net and netscape.net mail will not show the netscape.net incoming unless it is actually READ in its separate inbox. Periodically, duplicate messages do now appear, but without the new, un-opened netscape mail. This duplication is corrected by exiting the app then re-starting it, but the new mails still are not listed in the combined unified format, nor are they, for that matter, in the ALL format. Wassup wit dat?

I am unable to send an original email right now with Thunderbird. I realize "original" is not the best descriptor but what I am trying to describe is if I compose an email to another party, Thunderbird tries to send it and immediately returns the message below even if I send the word Test in the subject line and as the one word text message:

Send Message Error Sending of the Message failed An error occurred while sending email. the mail server respnded: [VO-1] Message blocked due to spam content in the message. Please check the messge and try again.

I have tried multiple email recipients with the same results.

However, if I take an email currently in my Inbox and Forward it to another recipient, it sends it with no error.

Thanks for your help. I am sure I have done something I should not have but I cannot think of what it was.

At my office with four users, we correspond with many companies using TBird in a Windows environment. We use our ISP's mail servers so our domain is @hawaiiantel.net. Every few weeks, one or two of our correspondents start bouncing our messages. The header is long but this is the important part:

We are showing up on a block list, obviously. It lasts a few days and stops. I didn't think TBird could have anything to do with it, but if I copy the body of my message, immediately open my Web Mail, create a message to the same recipient, and send it, it doesn't bounce. My co-workers are convinced this is a problem with TBird.

Description: I’m using Thunderbird (latest version) on Windows and have two Outlook 365 accounts configured: a1@adagioconcepts.com (hosted via Office 365 from GoDaddy) — fully working a2@floetermusic.com (also hosted via Office 365 from GoDaddy) — receiving works via POP3, but sending via SMTP fails Both accounts are configured identically: SMTP server: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Username: matches the email address For a2@floetermusic.com, Thunderbird errors when I try to send email (wrong password). I have re-entered the password many times with no change in behavior. However, the other account (a1@adagioconcepts.com) authenticates and sends perfectly using OAuth2. I have: Confirmed that the SMTP server is assigned correctly to the failing account Reset Thunderbird’s login store (logins.json, key4.db) Deleted and re-added the SMTP entry Ensured both accounts use OAuth2 Verified that App Passwords are not available in my Microsoft 365 tenant (modern auth only) Thunderbird is clearly capable of handling OAuth2 SMTP with one account, but won’t initialize it for the other. Can anyone help determine why OAuth2 SMTP does not initiate for one account while working on another with identical settings and provider?

After latest update, 139.0.2, can no longer create a new message, clicking on +New Message elicits no response at all. I can reply to emails.

I have run Thunderbird for many years, no problem. Updated to version 139.0.2 today. Can no longer compose new email, clicking on +New Message elicits no response at all. Using the 'Send To Mail' no longer works. But I an reply to incoming emails. Turned off ad-ons & troubleshooting mode, turned off antivirus, made sure Thunderbird is a allowed program in antivirus (Avira). Nothing. Checked IMAP & SMTP, nothing changes, as far as I an see. Previous version was 115.

I am a club secretary and have sent emails to mulitple recipients as BCC on a regular basis. Today this stopped working. I am using Thunderbird Version 128.11.1esr. I updated to this about a week ago. I have not recently updated Windows.

The error message says sending the email failed: the subject matter, the attachments or a link may contain spam or phishing or malware.

but if I send exactly the same email to one email, to an unblinded address it is sent without problem.

I updated Windows today to no effect.
