When I try to start Thunderbird on my old laptop I enter my primary password when requested, but it does not seem to be recognised and the dialogue box keeps reappearing. If I select 'cancel' it allows me into Thunderbird but only displays some very old emails. How can I resolve this please?

This is a new Fedora-42 desktop, upgraded (dnf upgrade) today. I installed Thunderbird today (dnf install thunderbird), after doing the operating system upgrade. I tried to add my yahoo e-mail account. Settings are as follows:

  • create accounts in the new Account Hub is unchecked (off).
  • accept cookies from sites is checked (on).
  • remember password is checked (on).
  • I'm using "IMAP".

When I click "Done", a separate window pops up in which yahoo asks for my password. After entering it, yahoo says "Something went wrong", and gives no other indication of what the problem is.

If I instead "Configure manually"... I tried both the default hostnames and "export.imap.mail.yahoo.com" for the outgoing server. I tried both "Normal Password" and "OAuth2" authentication methods.

In all the above cases, I get "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration , username or password." with a yellow background.

I see nothing of "Edge Too many requests" as was happening to several people recently.

How do I add my yahoo account to this new Thunderbird on Fedora-42?

Comcast required me to change the password for my secondary Thunderbird email account. Now secondary Thunderbird account password doesn't work. It is my understanding that my secondary Thunderbird password has to match the one on Comcast. I have tried numerous times to try to change it and have not been successful. I have tried to follow the instructions I have found but instructions don't seem to work. Apparently I am doing something wrong. Would appreciate your help.

This follows on from two questions I posted earlier - which I can't find again.

I hoped that by removing Thunderbird and then installing it again, I could set it up so that it continued to work without, as it did last time, seeming to be fine then saying the password didn't match the server (which wasn't the one I'd used). But Thunderbird remembered everything so re-installing didn't help. But I tried using the app password I'd generated for the last attempt - and that worked. It remains to be seem if it will when I open Thunderbird again . . .

I'm not able to log into yahoo e-mail via Linux Firefox (145.0 (64-Bit)): The error message is "We were unable to log you in. Please try again from another device." I can log in with Chrome (Linux and Windows) and Firefox (Windows). My issue is to switch from POP3 to IMAP in Thunderbird. There the same error message occurs.

It looks like with this new version of Firefox I have to load my saved password file every time I start the browser, and even after doing the reload some of the passwords don't work forcing me to change them, and I would have to do another password save, but if I forget to do it and close the browser all the passwords are delete. I did not have this problem prior to this new install.

Also I prefer to use Firefox as a browser I feel it is way better than Edge and Chrome even though it doesn't work one a two websites I need to use. one only works on chrome the other only works on edge.

Let me know if you need other information.

Hi a few weeks ago i had the problem that my firefox-stored-passwords are gone and there are files named logins.json.corrupt and logins.json-1.corrupt to -4 The in dir backup was also corrupt. File length 122 -123 kb all nulls. If i look at the dates first to last, they span two weeks were i didnt notice the problem. PC is always hibernated after work. Except for one which i imported just before from edge at the end of the two week span No problem: logins replaced by external backup as i found here at the forum.

But: How can Firefox produce multiple corrupt files without noticing me? (I have saved them for reference) In that two weeks span logins using firefox passwords obviously worked. (I dont remember the details)

Then some updates and reboots. No problem. But after work i do always hibernation

TODAY: PC didnt survive hibernation. logins and in-dir backup are corrupt again.

What about a) checking better if something is going wrong (obiously you do something because you rename the files for some reason) b) Noticing the user c) And how on earth this can go wrong in the first place.

Now for the obscure: Both times somebody has just before posted something against the greatest President of all time at Fux Nus using this pc. Backdoor possible?

Thanks

Edit: Using Windows, no other problems with storage on the 1TB Samsung ssd

Problem logging in to Thunderbird, interference from Google

13 Nov. I have been dealing with the problem of the requirement to sign in to Thunderbird using Google. It does not work. I enter my e-mail address, click next, and get a second window that says "Error 400". I tried to get some help with this through a company listed on the internet as Just Answer. That turned out to be a scam.

Someone called me this morning, offering to help me with this problem. The person was from the company The Web Services. While the technician from Web Services was working on my computer for a while to restore my Thunderbird files, he told he that they kept losing the internet connection to my computer. He said they had determined that they kept losing the internet connection, because some hackers were hacking into my computer, while they were working. He showed me a lot of evidence of hacking on my computer, indicating that the 2 technicians from Just Answer who had helped me the day before through long chats were hacking into my computer the entire time they were chatting with me, going through steps they said would solve the problem with having to sign in to Thunderbird using Google. I think the people from Just Answer had tried to create a Thunderbird back-up profile, but had not done it correctly. As a result, all the data within Thunderbird was lost. I cancelled my subscription with Just Answer today.

The technician from The Web Services was able to restore my Thunderbird, including the many local files I have. Some additional formatting of the site still needs to be done, and the correct server settings need to be set up. That is to be finished tomorrow morning. The Web Services person also sold me an anti-hacking firewall, which is supposed to also provide network security.

I am concerned, because on the Mozilla support page, it specifically states that Thunderbird does not offer phone support. I gave this company access to my computer today, so they could restore my Thunderbird files. The Thunderbird files have been restored. Now I see that the issue with trying unsuccessfully to sign in to Thunderbird using Google is still there. So I am right back where I started over a week ago, trying to find someone who can solve the issues that come up when I try to sign into Thunderbird with Google.

I am somewhat suspicious of the company The Web Services, because they called me and offered to fix the problems I am having with signing in to Thunderbird. Please let me know whether it was unwise to let them work on my computer today. Could this be another scam? Thank you.

14 Nov. I have been unable to solve the problem of needing to sign in to Thunderbird using Google. I have gotten myself into some trouble, and almost got scammed by trying to get help from on line providers to accomplish this. Some Dell technicians have the suspicion that my version of Thunderbird may be corrupted. I am going to take my Dell desktop to a computer shop tomorrow. I am hoping they will install a new form of Thunderbird onto an external computer, and then let me try to log in to Thunderbird on that version. If that works, then it will be an indication that the version I have been using on my Dell desktop is corrupted. The plan in that case would be to have the technician transfer all my Thunderbird data to the new version of T-bird on the external computer. Then he could install a new, fresh version of T-bird on my computer. Finally, he could attempt to return all my Thunderbird data from the external computer back onto the new version of T-bird on my computer. I am afraid that my Local Folders and their contents will not be transferred back to Thunderbird on my computer. I'm afraid that all my local folders will be lost. I'm not sure whether the technician will have to make a Thunderbird-Profile_back up before he removes the Thunderbird data from my computer. We'll see.

Trying to set up My outlook email account in Thunderbird. Enter the correct info (User and password) and get incorrect password when I am 1000% sure I am entering the correct password but because there is no way to make any manual changes because Mozilla thinks they have everything set correctly, when they don't, I can't add the account. The manual evidently only works if the password is correct?? I can set the account up obviously in Outlook both on PC and both Outlook and Mail app on the IPhone using the same password but not Thunderbird??
